October is Prescription Awareness Month and to support awareness of prescription misuse and abuse we have developed a reading list of open source resources " Substance Misuse & Abuse in the Older Adult".

Age Friendly Communities (AFC)

The Ministry of Seniors Affairs recently shared an invitation for applications for the 5th annual Seniors Community Grant Program. Funding of up to $5 million is available in 2017-19 to organizations working to benefit Ontario seniors. Grants of up to $100,000 are available for the first time. Deadline for applications is 5pm EST on Thurs. Nov. 30th 2017. For more information and application forms please click here


Alzheimer Society of Ontario (ASO)

Finding Your Way® Living Safely in the Community Quiz
is an online interactive tool to help members of the public see if they know what to do if they encounter a person with dementia that was lost or confused about their surroundings. Finding your way also offers a free online course.

Bruyère Research Institute (BRI)

The Ontario Centres for Learning, Research and Innovation (CLRI) in Long-Term Care are pleased to announce a new substantial investment from the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. The base funding allocated to CLRI 2.0 will support continued development and spread of innovations to enhance quality of care across the Ontario long-term care sector.  For more information please click here.


Ontario Neurotrauma Foundation (ONF)

ONF is one of a number of organizations working to increase the awareness of the problem of falls and older adults by promoting November as Fall Prevention Month. Part of this work includes sharing a free online toolkit of resource and gives organizations a way to share and promote their initiatives. To learn more about the campaign click here. Monthly Reading List

This month we turn our attention to some of the issues related to recognizing and understanding substance misuse and abuse in older adults. Canadian Frailty Network

CFN is looking for input from those interested in improving health and social care for older Canadians about what they need from trainees who work in this field to inform their training curriculum and framework. They are asking people to please participate in this 10 minute survey by October 16th.  



Healthy Behaviour Data Challenge

The Healthy Behaviour Data Challenge seeks to identify and evaluate new data sources and methods to enhance public health surveillance. HDC is looking for innovators to propose creative new types of data and data sources that can be used to measure indicators of physical activitysleepsedentary behaviour, or nutrition. To learn more clic here .
