How Did Performance Audits Make A Difference in FY 2017?
How did our audits make Berkeley a better place? Tune in at 6pm Tuesday for the City Auditor's Report on Results: Fiscal Year 2017. I'll comment briefly (after Ceremonial Items) about our work as change agents last year. Open the report to see not only what we recommended, but what city staff achieved (click on the pictures in the four page report to read the audits!). We highlight three major risks for the City; our audits address them. Please let me know how you like the new, shorter reporting format!
Update on General Fund Reserve Policy action - Last week, Council moved forward on strengthening the reserve policy they adopted in response to my audit General Fund Reserve Policy Fails to Convey that Maintaining the Reserve is a Priority. The Mayor appointed a subcommittee of four Council Members who had participated actively in lively discussions on the best way forward, and once they reach consensus they will report back.
The Zero Waste Commission also reports to Council this Tuesday on the Zero Waste Strategic Plan(action item 38).Their message:
"In order to meet our Zero Waste Goal, and in response to the City Auditor's recommendations, the Zero Waste Commission recommends that the City move forward immediately to 1. Update the Zero Waste Goal for current feasibility; and 2. Issue the RFP for a consultant to develop a Zero Waste Strategic Plan - which will lead the City towards that goal."
