Dear Saint Rose Families,

I hope that you are having a great week.  For the past two days our 8th graders visited the local Catholic high schools.  They enjoyed the pep rallies, treats and fun.  We are fortunate to live in a community that is surrounded by so many excellent high schools shaped in the Catholic tradition. Please pray for our 8th graders and their families as they make this discernment.
Tomorrow is our fall rally day.  Students can wear their CYO shirt/Pirate shirt/Saint Rose shirt/150th shirt along with their normal dress pants, shorts or skirt.  Our day will end with a special visit from the mayor, as he will present a proclamation for the school's 150th Anniversary.  We are looking forward to a fun day.
I hope that your family had an opportunity to respond to the Sponsor a Student campaign.  If not, please take a moment to prayerfully discern what your family is able to contribute to our tuition assistance campaign.  This campaign directly benefits our school by supporting the tuition of over 30 students.  All of our students pay the majority of their tuition, but some do need assistance to make our Catholic education possible.  Your generosity, combined with the support of our parish, allows a Catholic education for all those who desire it in Perrysburg.

I hope to see you at Mass this weekend.

Sincerely,

Bryon Borgelt

Internet Filtering At Home

The internet is a great resource. It can be however, a great danger at the same time. It is not wise to give children unfiltered access to the internet. At school we filter content to help protect our students from unwanted and harmful content. It is important to have the ability to filter content in your own home as well. Here is some information about four effective ways to limit the content available to your children while using mobile devices and computers in your home. This list is not exhaustive so, if what you see here will not work for you, please do some research and find something that you can use in your home.

Please CLICK HERE to read more about filtering options.

If you would like to use a service on a school device, please contact Mr. Combs ([email protected]) to ensure it is compatible with restrictions already in place. Thank you.

Counselor's Corner                            Sept. 2017

September's lesson focused on the lifeskill of Integrity. Integrity focuses on doing what is right even in tough situations. We focused on showing moral character in multiple environments, such as home and school.

Guidance Lesson Recap:
Grade K: We read the book Lucy and the Bully by Claire Alexander, which was about a little lamb named Lucy who was having a hard time with another student at school. The story discussed what students should do if they experience bullying situations. As a class, we brainstormed ways to show integrity in doing what is right, such as standing up for themselves and talking to the teacher about their concerns.

Grades K-1: We read the book Eggbert The Slightly Cracked Egg by Tom Ross and Rex Barron, which focused on many examples of integrity. From respecting others' feelings to keeping promises, we talked about the many ways that we can show friendship and integrity toward others. We also talked about examples of what to do when others do not show integrity, such as with situations of bullying.

Grades 2: We read the book The Boy Who Looked Like Lincoln by Mike Reiss. The story focused on how a boy felt when other friends made fun of the way he looked. We discussed how we are all different and it is important to appreciate all of our differences. We discussed ways to show integrity and how to stand up for a friend in situations similar to these.

Grades 3: We read the book Won't Somebody Play With Me? By Steven Kellogg. Students discussed the many examples of integrity, such as why it is important to do what is right even if you don't get caught or in trouble. We also discussed the differences of bullying and being bossy and how to handle both of those situations. As a class, we discussed the many ways we can show integrity with others, such as helping a friend and being honest.

Grades 4 & 5: We read the book Bully by Patricia Polacco, which focused on how technology can cause problems with friendships and even cyberbullying. The story was about a girl from school who struggled with finding her real friends, while dealing with the consequences of cyberbullying. As a class, we discussed the many struggles that students deal with, such as fitting in and wanting to be popular. We discussed how showing integrity plays a role in all aspects of our life.

Grades 6-8: We completed an activity where we discussed the many ways people can practice integrity and we discussed what not showing this lifeskill may look like. As a class, students then participated in a game of putt putt. We discussed how group work requires integrity in following the rules, including everyone in the group, and staying positive when tasks may be challenging.

Kroger Community Rewards

It is time to print your Kroger Community Rewards balance.  Please send the print-out to the Saint Rose School office to the attention of Alison Ray-Kobler.  To ensure that we have the most up to date information on file, please also write the name of the St. Rose child/family who should receive the credit for your earnings (if applicable).  The only way we are able to assign the Kroger Community Rewards to a specific Scrip account is by having the Scrip participants print and submit their Kroger Community Rewards donation amount. Thank you.

Room Parent Volunteers

Your child's classroom is in need of volunteers to sign up as
room parents!

Room Parent Volunteers are simply parent helpers for each classroom. You will meet with your child's teacher to coordinate activities, dates and times and assign other parents to help out with snacks, crafts, etc. as the teacher instructs. We will need 2 parents per classroom and sign up will be on a first come, first serve basis, so please sign up ASAP! Also, this year we are trying something different: we would like to keep in contact with you to receive feedback about your classroom and to make sure your year is running as smooth as possible. Thank you in advance for volunteering your time and talents, because without you, these parties would not be possible!

CONTINUING ADULT FAITH FORMATION

"Too old too soon, too smart too late." That mantra comes to mind every time I
think about how I would have raised my daughters differently had I been more
knowledgeable about my Catholic faith. If I had life to live over again, the one
thing I would invest more time in would be learning and living a more authentic
practice of my Catholic faith as a mother and parent. It is the one investment that
offers eternal rewards." Mary Alice Newnam, St. Rose Parishioner
