CHDI's latest Issue Brief:
Accessible, Affordable and Efficient Health Care for Children: Co-management of Pediatric Primary & Subspecialty Care  looks at ways co-managed care is helping reduce long waiting lists, save money, and provide care for children in a more familiar setting. I n co-managed  care, pediatric primary care providers work collaboratively with subspecialty providers to diagnose and treat patients for relatively common and mild conditions traditionally managed by specialists.

In October, I will step down from my position as president and CEO of the Child Health and Development Institute of Connecticut (CHDI), where I began as the founding director over 18 years ago. CHDI is a nonprofit organization that cuts across the worlds of science, policy and practice to bring sustainable improvements to health and mental health care for children in Connecticut. From this perch, I have had the opportunity to experience and participate in significant advances in the children's mental health system in Connecticut that mirror advancements nationwide.  Read more
Guilford Courier Profiles Judith Meyers as Person of the Week

Judith Meyers was profiled in the Guilford Courier last week for her impressive career dedicated to improving how systems work for children and families. The article entitled, "For Children and Change: Judith Meyers' Compelling Work," features ways CHDI has improved the lives of children under her leadership.

M
eyers will step down as President and CEO of CHDI on September 30, passing the torch to Jeffrey Vanderploeg. She will continue to lead the Children's Fund of Connecticut through September of 2018.

Two articles published this month by CT Mirror featured efforts related to CHDI's work to address child trauma in Connecticut:

WFSB- TV 

Channel 3 Eyewitness News featured the positive relationship school resource officers at Wallace Middle School in Waterbury are developing with students. CHDI worked with Wallace Middle School last year through Connecticut's School-Based Diversion Initiative to decrease school-based court referrals by 68% and help school personnel, including school resource officers, to better address student's behavioral health.

The Chronicle for Social Change

"States Explore Trauma Screening in the Child Welfare System," an article in the Chronicle of Social Change, highlights a case study on child trauma screening that looked at lessons learned from five states, including Connecticut. CHDI's Dr. Jason Lang co-authored the case study which was originally published in the Journal of Child and Adolescent Trauma (June 2017). 

Job Opportunity: Project Coordinator for CBITS
CHDI is currently seeking a Project Coordinator with strong data reporting skills, primarily for the Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Trauma in Schools [CBITS] initiative. The Project Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating training and quality assurance activities for implementation of one or more child behavioral health evidence-based practices. CHDI is the Coordinating Center for CBITS, and is working with DCF, which funds the initiative, to disseminate CBITS across Connecticut.  Click here for the job description and application procedures.
Staff News
Margaret Berry is leaving CHDI to travel overseas for a year before pursuing her Master's in Public Health at  Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health. After graduating from college in 2015, Margaret joined CHDI's health team as a Program Assistant. During her time at CHDI, she assisted in writing a peer-reviewed publication and completed several data projects related to care coordination collaboratives and screening in primary care sites. We wish Margaret well in her travels and studies. 

Phyllis Lee is leaving CHDI this month to join Eastern Connecticut State University (ECSU) as an Assistant Professor.  Phyllis was a postdoc who has worked on data analysis for TF-CBT and CONCEPT.  Phyllis is planning to continue collaborating on evidence-based practice projects with CHDI in her new role at ECSU.  We wish Phyllis success in her new position.
