Hot Breakfast
Breakfast this coming Sunday, October 15, will be provided by guest chefs, Nelson & Janice Toebbe.

Please plan on joining everyone in Board Hall between 8:30am and 9:45 where you will not only enjoy great food but a time for fellowship.

Wed. AM Bible Study
Our Wednesday morning Bible study has begun with a new book, I & II Kings!  It's a story of Israelite kings and prophets of the Old Testament, people like Solomon and Elijah, who often clash.  The two books narrate the gradual decline of the quality of the monarchy, which led the nation into idolatry and injustice, resulting in their conquest and enslavement by the Babylonian Empire.  Palace intrigue, forbidden affairs, and plenty of gory violence abound.

We meet in Board Hall from 9:45 - 11:00.  About 20 people currently participate, and there's always room for more.  We start by reading aloud a chapter or a portion of a chapter.  We look at the text, and we search for additional meaning "in between the lines" and behind the text.  What were the authors trying to do when they wrote this?  In others words, why did this write this the way that they did?  How would the original readers and hearers have responded?  And, of course, what does it mean for our daily life in the world?

After this 25 minute review, we ask questions and share insights.  Led by Father Michael.

Feast of St. Luke's
On the weekend of October 14th and 15th, we will celebrate our Patronal Feast of St. Luke, our parish's namesake, at all three of our Eucharists.

This is a special event for our faith family, and we encourage you to join in our praise of God, giving thanks for the powerful ministry of Luke, author of a gospel and The Acts of the Apostles.

Newcomer's Dinner
Newcomers Dinner on Sunday, October 15, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at Owl Creek Country Club in Anchorage.

Visitors and newer members are invited for an evening of fun, food and fellowship.  If you have joined in the past year, have been visiting us or were not able to attend the newcomers dinner last May and would like to meet others, this event is for you.

Children are welcomed and there is no cost.  Please RSVP to Celia Manlove at [email protected] or call (502)253-0862.

Organ Recital & Choral Evensong : Oct. 22 at 4pm
The first organ recital and Evensong of the Fall season is on October 22 at 4:00 pm.    Michael Messina, Trinity Church, Indianapolis, will present a 30 minute organ recital.  Choral Evensong will follow, featuring choral music of Julianna Horton.   A reception will follow in Board Hall.

Please note the new start time of 4:00 pm.  Evensong is a wonderful, traditional service of prayer and music - a perfect service to invite a friend to experience the beauty and tranquility of St. Luke's.

Centering Prayer
Please join us for Centering Prayer on
October 24, at 6pm in the church.

We meet every fourth Tuesday of the month.

St. Luke's Lay Pastoral Care Ministry
will hold their Fall retreat on Sunday, October 22, after the 10am service at the home of Jon & Linda Siegrist.

Please pray for the lay ministers who continue to serve those in need.

St. George Episcopal / Halloween volunteers
While at vacation bible school at St. James this summer we met folks from St. George Episcopal.

They are looking for 6 or 7 people to help with their Halloween party on Tuesday, Oct. 31 from 5pm to 7pm.

There will be tables with crafts and activities for the children. Volunteers are asked to monitor the tables and bring a bag of candy.

St. George is located at 1201 S. 26th. Street. For more information on the party, please contact Bonnie at 502/377-1255.

All Saints' Day
On Saturday, November 4 and Sunday, November 5, we will be celebrating All Saints Day.

If you would like the name of a departed loved one read aloud during worship, please print their name legibly on the registers located in both Narthexes.

Please add your own name, in case we need to contact you about pronunciation.

Winter Foyer Groups Sign Ups
Foyer Groups are groups of 6-8 (could be more) people that meet for a meal (at someone's home or at a restaurant). Every person (or couple) takes a turn arranging a meeting.  After the Winter meetings, new groups will begin in the Spring.

Besides having fun and getting to know each other, Foyer Groups offer an excellent opportunity to discuss where our church is now, where it is going and how we feel.   Of course, the groups have no assigned topics and people may just want to let the conversations ramble and flow, laugh and have a good time.

Sign-ups begin this weekend and will run through November 5 when sign-up sheets will be taken up.   Call Calvin Riley Pinney: 245 1623 or Caroline Eddleman: 253-0135 for information or questions.
