October - December 2017

From the Chief
Dear Residents,

It's Fire Prevention Week (Oct. 8-14), so it's a great time for families and businesses to learn about fire safety issues. This week can also serve as a reminder to check your smoke alarms in your home or business.

We hope you'll join us for Community Safety Day this Saturday, Oct. 14 from 9 a.m. to noon at the State Bridge Corners Shopping Center (details below). It's a great way to view fire and police demonstrations, and learn about how to keep you, your family, and business safe.

And, please stay updated on JCFD operations, training exercise photos, fire safety  and other useful information by following us on Facebook and Twitter.

Stay safe,

Fire Chief Jeff Hogan

National Fire Prevention Week is Oct. 8-14
National Fire Prevention Week's theme is "Every Second Counts: Plan 2 Ways Out," which reinforces the importance of having an escape plan in your home or business.

The National Fire Protection Association's Sparky the Fire Dog helps remind you how having a home or business escape plan can help save lives.

Stay safe this Halloween
Plan ahead to make Halloween a fun and fire-safe night for your family.

Take fire safety precautions like making sure fabrics for costumes and decorations are flame-resistant. These Halloween safety tips from the National Fire Protection Association can come in handy.

Fall Back! Change alarm batteries Nov. 5
Don't forget to set your clocks back one hour when Daylight Saving Time ends Sunday, Nov. 5. It's also a great time to check your smoke alarm battery and carbon monoxide detector battery, as many need replacing every six months.

Check the manufacturer date of your smoke alarms while changing your batteries. It is recommended that you replace your smoke alarms every 10 years. You can find the manufacturer date on the bottom side of the detector, usually on a sticker, located near the battery compartment.
