Read Federation Executive Director Gabriel Miller's latest op-ed on the Canadian Science Policy Conference Editorials page, entitled "Canada needs to confront the causes of a post-truth world," which takes a closer look at President Trump's post-truth approach to politics and outlines Canada's responsibility to choose a different path.

Registration is now open for the Federation's  upcoming webinar on assessing impacts in the HSS on October 26 at 12:00-1:00 pm EDT. The session will feature David Phipps, Executive Director, Research & Innovation Services, York University, and Peter Severinson Policy Analyst at the Federation, sharing approaches available to researchers to achieve, assess and communicate impacts.
New Chief Science Advisor 
The Federation congratulates  Dr. Mona Nemer on her appointment as Canada's new Chief Science Advisor and welcomes this as good news for the Canadian research system. "We look forward to working with Dr. Nemer to ensure that the federal government is drawing on the work of researchers across all disciplines to meet the complex challenges facing Canada," said President Guy Laforest. On November 2, the Federation is organizing a  Big Thinking  panel discussion at the upcoming Canadian Science Policy Conference in Ottawa. The event " Expertise in a post-truth era: How to be a trusted advisor in a low-trust world " will be moderated by Federation Executive Director, Gabriel Miller and will feature  Mark Kingwell , Professor of Philosophy, University of Toronto,  Lisa Kimmel , President and CEO, Edelman Canada and Rima Wilkes, President, Canadian Sociological Association.

On November 25,  Blair Stonechild, Professor of Indigenous Studies at First Nations University of Canada, will present a Big Thinking on the road lecture entitled "The importance of Indigenous knowledge and spirituality for the future of academia" at the Royal Society of Canada's 2017 Celebration of Excellence in Winnipeg. Registration for the November 23-25 event is now open. 
Canada's global advantage
Senior Fellow at the Centre for International Governance at the University of Waterloo Bessma Momani and former Canadian Ambassador Jillian Stirk presented their Big Thinking lecture "Diversity dividend: Canada's global advantage" on Parliament Hill September 21. U of R Indigenous entrepreneurship 
A $100K donation from Saskatchewan-born philanthropists Gordon and Jill Rawlinson to the University of Regina will help establish the Rawlinson Fellow in Indigenous Entrepreneurship in the Faculty of Business Administration. "This forward-thinking gift allows our Levene School of Business to be at the forefront of job creation for Indigenous people by Indigenous people,'' says Acting Dean of Business David Senkow.
CEIM public consultation
The Center for Studies on Integration and Globalization affiliated with the Université du Québec à Montréal is organizing a public consultation entitled "Towards a Socially Responsible Trade Policy?". The public consultation is conducted via an online survey (open only until this Sunday, October 15) and through in-person consultation sessions in five cities across five Canadian cities.
