Thank you for reading the
MKE Airfield Update! This newsletter is intended to keep
you up-to-date on airfield construction projects, regular maintenance, and
special events that could impact the standard flow of arriving or
departing air traffic.
There are still some major airfield construction projects remaining this fall, along with regular airfield maintenance:
- The main east-west runway used by commercial airlines, Runway 7R/25L, will be closed for pavement work from early September through mid-October. This could result in a change in aircraft overflight activity in surrounding neighborhoods.
- Two runways that primarily serve smaller General Aviation aircraft will be closed this fall. Runway 1R/19L will be closed from mid-September through mid-October. Runway 13/31 will be closed from mid-October though late November. The map below has more details.
- There will also be intermittent closures during daytime hours for regular maintenance work. Runways generally remain open during nights and weekends.
- This year's runway construction at Timmerman Airport, the General Aviation reliever airport located on Milwaukee's northwest side, is complete.
Many new nonstop routes are in the works for MKE! So far in 2017, airlines have added ten new dots to the
MKE route map. The newest airline to enter the Milwaukee market is
Allegiant, which will offer new nonstop service to Arizona and four destinations in Florida beginning this fall. These new routes provide low-cost options for vacation travelers from our area.
Stars & Stripes Honor Flights at MKE are currently scheduled for September 16, October 14, and November 4. It's a festive atmosphere in the terminal as family and friends
welcome veterans home after visiting war memorials in Washington, DC. We thank these veterans for putting their lives on the line to defend our freedoms.
