Dear Saints,

We have been having a blast meeting with all of our Freshmen and new students during the past week!  Our meetings will continue for the next few weeks.  If we have not met with you yet, we will very soon!  We have also started college application help for Seniors on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in room 102, starting at 2:45 p.m.  Don't forget to stop by for help!

In HIS Love,
Mrs. Garcia

WITH HOPE Parent Night
With Hope -- The Amber Craig Memorial Foundation  will be presenting this year to all students about mental health awareness and suicide prevention during Chapel on Thursday, October 12. Parents are invited to join us on Tuesday, October 10 from 6:00-7:00p.m. in the MPR (Room 207A) to view the presentation that students will be seeing on October 12 in Chapel. It is important that we keep the lines of communication open about mental health issues, including suicide and depression, as these are issues that many students face. We hope to see you all there.    Please click here to RSVP.

Presidential Service Award
Freshman and Sophomores 15 years of age or younger, who complete volunteer service hours are encouraged to apply for the Gold Level Presidential Service Award. The award only requires 100 hours of volunteer work in a single year (less than two hours per week).  That volunteer work may take place at more than one location.  It is important for a student to complete this award while age 14 or 15, because when they turn 16, they need 250 hours in a single year (over four hours per week). In order to associate one's self with CLHS as the assigner of the award, the student must use the ROS Key SVU-6020.    Click here for information on the criteria and eligibility. See your counselor to apply!
College Application Madness
Come and join the Counselors to work on your college applications. Bring your laptop and any questions about your application about how to send test scores, about the UC Personal Insight Questions, and more.  Counselors will be offering this workshop every Tuesday and Wednesday in Room 102 from 2:45-4:00 p.m. all the way through November.
Senior Brag Sheets Due October 1
Seniors, if you will be requesting any letters of recommendation for college applications or scholarships,   please be sure to complete the Senior Brag Sheet and turn it in to your counselor by October 1 .  The Brag Sheet has a student questionnaire as well as a parent questionnaire. Both components of this Brag Sheet are incredibly helpful, when it comes to writing a well-rounded letter of recommendation that speaks to your strengths and character.

Did you know?
Many colleges offer overnight visitation options. Attending one of these at a prospective college is very valuable and will give you better insight as to whether this is the right school for you. Please contact schools directly for dates as well as to learn about their registration process.
Learning Success Program
It is a pleasure to work with your students and we are having the best time getting to know them.  Mrs. Oliver and Mrs. Walker have been individually meeting with the students to review their accommodations.  It is so important that the students understand their accommodations, when to use them, and how to request an accommodation.

Skill of the Week: Students should email their teacher at least one block before a scheduled test or quiz to request extended time or to test in the LAB.  This will not only help your student to learn self advocacy skills, but also allows the teacher plenty of time to prepare for the accommodations requested.  Mrs. Oliver and Mrs. Walker are available to help with the communication to teachers on any accommodation.
Tip of The Week
Get involved! Next week on September 28, we will be having Club Rush.  It's a great way to meet other students and get involved.  Don't just attend school, rather engage and experience school. Make this your school-be involved!
