LIHEAP APPLICATIONS FOR SENIORS, PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES AVAILABLE OCTOBER 1!

Locations:

Contact your local Community Action Agency to make an appointment to apply for LIHEAP.  You can use the "Where to Apply" link to the right to locate the appropriate Community Action Agency for your county.  You may call 1-877-411-9276.

Income Eligibility:

If your household's combined income for the 30 days prior to application (gross income, before taxes are deducted) is at or below 150% of the federal poverty level as shown in the chart below, you may be eligible to receive assistance. If you rent, and your heat and/or electric is included in the rent, your rent must be greater than 30% of your income in order to be eligible to receive assistance.

Bring all appropriate documentation:

Do not forget to bring all required documentation when you apply, including:
  • Proof of gross income from all household members for the 30-day period beginning with the date of application.
  • A copy of current heat and electric bills issued within the last 30 days (if energy directly paid for).
  • A copy of rental agreement (if renting) showing that utilities are included, the monthly rental amount and landlord contact information.
  • Proof of Social Security numbers for all household members.
  • Proof the household received TANF or other benefits, such as Medical Eligibility or SNAP, if receiving assistance from the Illinois Department of Human Services.

Tickets will be available at the Visitor Information Center starting at 10:00 am. Homes and other tour stops will be open from 11:00 am until 5:00 pm. It will take at least 2 hours for the tour so ticket sales will end at 3:00pm.

COMPREHENSIVE LEGAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS FUNDING ELIGIBILITY AND FUTURE FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES 

  ICJIA is now accepting applications for Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) funding to support Comprehensive Legal Assistance Programs.  

The Comprehensive Legal Assistance Programs funding opportunity is open to public and non-profit agencies whose primary mission is to provide legal assistance services through the use of attorneys. Eligible agencies must incorporate victim advocates to complement the work of the attorneys, either as direct staff or via a subcontract with a victim service agency.

Agencies that offer legal advocacy but whose primary missions are something other than providing legal assistance services are not eligible. Organizations providing law enforcement-based victim/witness services are not eligible.
 
Agencies interested in funding to support legal advocacy, victim/witness programs, or any other victim service   are encouraged to review this memo on future funding opportunities. 
 
VOCA funding cannot be used for any criminal defense, tort actions, or active investigation or prosecution of criminal activities.
