FROM THE BOARD
Next Board Meeting October 10, 2017 at 6:00pm
Next Board Communications Committee Meeting October 20, 2017 at 9:00am

The CCA Board had their monthly meeting last Tuesday evening.  Just a reminder that parents are always welcome to attend the meetings and learn more about what is happening at the board level at CCA.

Colorado statutes require an annual financial audit be conducted of all funds by an independent auditor.  Swanhorst & Co., LLC has provided this audit for CCA.  The audit found no irregularities and a representative from Swanhorst provided a quick report on our successful audit. The Board voted to accept the audit as presented.

On  October 6, the Board & Administration will honor a number of CCA teachers who have been here for 5, 10, and even 20 years!  We look forward to celebrating these dedicated and exemplary teachers.

The Board approved a new member to the CCA Foundation Committee (responsible for raising significant funds for such purposes as enhanced technology at CCA), chaired by Cyndy Holmes, putting the committee at the optimal number of 8 members.  We appreciate the time and energy that all of these committee members put into this important part of CCA.

The CCA SAC (Student Accountability Committee) voted Aaron Castro as the chair for the 2017-2018 school year.  Again, we appreciate all of the parent volunteer members who make this an important committee and tool for feedback and improvement at CCA.

Finally, the Board Communications Committee met immediately preceding the Board meeting and discussed our communications plan for the school year, as well as goals for working with the new Communications Specialist to provide the most effective communications possible to our community.  The Communications committee welcomes and encourages parental feedback and involvement.  In an attempt to allow for more parent involvement, our next meeting will be immediately following the PTO meeting on  Friday October 20  at 9:am.

NEW P.E. PROGRAMS
As a part of your child's P.E. program this year, we are focusing on the five components of fitness -
Cardio, Endurance, Strength, Flexibility, and Body Composition.

Get Fit for grades 1-3 and FitnessGram  for grades 4-12 are Cherry Creek School District initiatives, and while these programs are being implemented this year at CCA, they were adopted by CCSD several years ago for all CCSD schools. FitnessGram started in 2010, and is now used to measure general fitness for over 10 Million 4-12 grade US students each year.

Students in Grades 1-3 will participate in the Get Fit Challenge during class time. The Get Fit Challenge is based on ActivityGram, which correlates with the FitnessGram assessment. The program is a collection of activities, movements, and exercises that educate students about different ways to stay active outside of PE.

Students in grades 4-8 will be participating in FitnessGram, similar to a version of the Presidential Physical Fitness Program that CCA has participated in over the years. Students will create a SMART goal, (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, timely) setting personalized goals for themselves, and then work to accomplish those goals. By participating in the FitnessGram assessments in the Fall and Spring, the students SMART goals are realized with real data on growth and accomplishments.

Please see the letter from Ms. Rutz, our PE Teacher, which has many details and specific information.

LUNCHROOM NEWS

Volunteer in the Cafeteria - We Need You!

Time: 10:40 am-1:00 pm. Come during your child's lunch or for the entire lunch period.
NOTE:  We are limited to the number of volunteers that can be in the lunchroom (max of 3 at any given time).

  • Volunteer duties include helping children sit safely, open packages, get school lunch, clean up & line up when called by the cafeteria staff.
  • Do NOT give the children any additional food or drink without first checking with Ms. Kalani or Ms. Rachel with regard to food allergies.
  • Line up is usually when you'll find straggling lunch boxes and jackets - please try to make sure the kids leave with these items!
  • It is a school rule that adults are not to accompany children into the bathrooms. This is a rule of safety that must be followed WITHOUT exception.
  • If a child informs you that they need to leave the cafeteria for any reason, please send them to the cafeteria staff to get permission.
  • If you find that your child is not okay with letting you be there helping others, then think about just volunteering for the other grades as not to cause any stress for your child.
  • Please do not bring any younger siblings along while you are helping.
  • Gloves will be provided for cleaning tables and spills.
  • Finally, please resist the urge to follow the children out into the playground.
Parents it is time to check your students' Milk Account. Go to: https://my.cherrycreekschools.org and log into your youngest child's POWERSCHOOL. Click BALANCE and look at "Meal Transactions" for your total.

Glass containers are NOT allowed in the lunchroom.   Plastic or metal knives are also not allowed.
Please make sure your child has a lunch each day, whether it is school hot lunch or a home lunch.
Please send questions to: [email protected]

No glass containers in the cafeteria,
please and thank you!

TRAFFIC/SAFETY:
JHL has planned ahead to minimize the impact to normal school operations, including traffic. Morning drop off and afternoon pick up will not change. JHL has scheduled all deliveries and truck/equipment traffic outside of our drop off and pick up times.

JHL created a safety video for our website, highlighting the efforts JHL takes to separate students from the construction as well as their thorough background checks for their employees, and other important efforts being taken to ensure a safe construction site.

JHL, DCS, RTA architects, and CCA leadership meet and discuss new construction tasks that involve safety matters at weekly Owner, Architect, Constructor meetings to ensure the safest site possible.

TOURS:
We are working with JHL Constructors and DCS, CCA's Owner's Rep, to schedule monthly tours for anyone interested in walking the project to hear and see first hand the progress being made. These tours will be held immediately following our regularly scheduled monthly PTO meetings. A PTO tour was held on Friday, 9/15. The next tour date will be 10/20 immediately following the PTO meeting.   Remember to wear close-toed shoes to participate!
