Only One You

Enders Elementary School students read the book "Only One You" by Linda Kranz and then painted rocks to represent their own uniqueness. Staff, students, and Enders PTA created a rock garden. It's a cool visual reminder that each student is wonderful and unique in their own way.

Hare Huskies Focus on PBIS

Hare High School held a PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) Launch Party to unveil its school-wide expectations which support the social-emotional and academic outcomes of students. Hare broadcast its "Top Dawg" show live on YouTube as students watched from their classrooms. Following the premiere, students and staff gathered for food and fun in the quad - which included Principal Nirk in a dunk tank .

Alamitos Scholars - Ready to Succeed

Alamitos Intermediate School students enjoyed a strong start to the school year, thanks in part to the Early Start program which gave AVID 7th graders three days to prepare for success. Almost 100 incoming 7th graders mapped the campus, used math to plan a vacation, and wrote goals for their road to college. The Early Start culminated with relationship building, including a Question & Answer hour hosted by 8th grade AVID Excel students and an ice cream social. Go fledgling Condors!

GGUSD Welcomes Human Rights Activist and Family to District

GGUSD Board of Education members and administrators hosted a special meeting to welcome to the district Pastor Nguyễn Công Chính, a Vietnamese prisoner of conscience, who was recently released from an 11-year sentence in Vietnam. Chính is a Protestant Pastor as well as an activist for religious freedom, human rights, and democracy. District administrators met with Pastor Chính, his wife, and five children, who are enrolled in GGUSD schools. The meeting was arranged to ensure the family is connected to all of the resources GGUSD offers to help students and families succeed.

Fighting Hunger in Our Communities

GGUSD teamed up with Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County to bring a monthly Mobile School Pantry to Peters K-3 and Peters 4-6 elementary schools. The partnership helps fight hunger in the community and allows families and community members to pick up free fruits and vegetables.

During the first event at Peters, 182 families benefited, including 456 children, 389 adults, and an additional 93 area seniors, who received free produce including watermelon, apples, plums, potatoes, onions, and carrots.

First Day Photo Contest Winners

Nearly 100 proud parents participated in our First Day of School photo contest on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram using #GGUSDFirstDay. The first and second place winners, pictured here, had approximately 200 Likes on our photo album. Their parents won a GGUSD t-shirt and students won backpacks full of school supplies. Thanks to all who participated and joined with us in celebrating a successful first day of school.
