We're one of Crain's Cool Places to Work...again!
For the fourth time, we have been named one of Crain's Cool Places to Work! We received the award, previously offered every other year, in 2016, 2014 and 2012!

If you are interested in joining our team, please see our current employment and internship opportunities here.
Looking for a holiday giving opportunity?
We are excited to be able to offer our  Adopt A Family program again this year! This year we hope to fill the wish lists and provide basic necessities and gifts for many of the families in our programs. Many of these families would go without during the holidays if not for Adopt A Family!

If you, or someone you know are interested in being a donor for Adopt A Family this holiday season, please contact Lisa Fuhr at  LFuhr@chninc.net

This month I'd like to introduce you to Morene Rehbine our director of Accounting and Finance in our Troy office.

This year we are celebrating our Sweet 16 anniversary. Since 2001, we have been lucky to have Morene ("Mo") on board, and part of our ever-expanding crew. She officially became part of our team in 2004, but handled our account through the CPA firm she was working for when we were just three-employees strong! We have grown exponentially in staff numbers, as well as in services offered to those we serve, through the years. Mo has worked with and seen the growth in the entities we develop, manage and own, the birth of the Homeless Management Information System, our involvement with supportive housing and our leasing assistance program to name a few.

As our fiscal year ends on September 30, we will be saying goodbye to Mo as she has decided to retire. Over the years, Mo has been a role-model for not only the accounting team, but for all of us.  Mo's dedication, insight and support have made her the go to person for many questions in and out of accounting at CHN.  Her supervisor, Carrie Mendoza, vice president and Chief Financial Officer shares that, "Mo's positive spirit and contagious laugh will be deeply missed by CHN.  We are so thankful for all of her many years of service!"

Let's turn to Mo now and give her a chance to answer a few questions.
What is your role within CHN?
Well the title I have ended up with is director of Accounting and Finance, but I have always been in the accounting department, as this company has grown and the accounting department itself has grown to keep up with the progress.

CHN was recently, once again, awarded by Crain's as a Cool Place to Work. What is one thing that you think makes this a great place?
I have always been impressed with how forward-thinking CHN is with having the latest technology available for our staff. An example in our department is when we started using a double-monitor system with our computers. This allows us to look at and compare projects without needing to print multiple sheets of paper, or toggle between tabs on one monitor. This is a tremendous time saver and cuts down on toner, paper and general printing costs.

You must be a "numbers" person. How did this personality trait make you successful when dealing with our reports, budgets, etc.?
I love things to balance, and don't like any type of discrepancies, so when looking over reports and budgets, it is an easy transition - AND if something looks out of whack, there is the drive to find out WHY.

How have you seen CHN evolve through your time here?
The evolution of CHN has been a wild ride of sorts. Seeing the transition from three to 90 employees makes me feel proud to have witnessed this growth, and all of the good that comes with that growth. CHN REALLY does do good work, and each of the staff is responsible for making this company what it is today.

I have also been around to see how programs have changed through the years. For example, our annual Adopt A Family program (see sidebar for more information) started off with employees shopping and wrapping for around 50 families.  As our donor base has grown, we have been able to increase the number of individuals and families we support during the holiday season (last year was well over 700!). We have learned that we can do more, with more. Donations  to this program are always appreciated, no matter the time of year!

With your retirement quickly approaching, what will you miss most?
I will miss the people the most; I have made soooo many friends here, and even though you swear you will make it a point to stay in contact, we all know life disrupts those promises. So it is with a heavy heart that I will be leaving.

Any parting words of wisdom?
Enjoy each day, both at work and at home. Enjoying your work day, because of the job and the peeps, makes it more of a pleasure than a chore !  Make it a point to laugh at least once each work day. It not only helps you smile, but also people in the vicinity!!!!
Mo, we will miss you and hearing your laugh throughout our day! Good luck and enjoy all the adventures retirement holds.

I am grateful for Morene's work as well as the work of all CHN team members!

Thank you for your ongoing support!
