Elementary Chapel - JoyFULL

Mr. Moore kicked off our first elementary chapel this year with our JoyFULL theme. Using two short clips about the character named Joy from the Disney movie, "Inside Out," Mr. Moore helped the students think about what joy is, and what it is not. Joy can't be forced or faked, and is not dependent on circumstances as James 1: 2-3 instructs us.

Student volunteers created an improvised dinner table scene to exhibit emotions to a common day situation. Mr. Moore shared that real joy is possible when we know our purpose for living. Psalm 16:11, our theme verse, tells us that we find purpose and joy in His Presence - with a relationship with Him.

Our Musical Institute for the Arts faculty led us in worship and taught us the chorus to a new song. It is our theme verse: Psalm 16 (Fullness of Joy) by Shane and Shane: click here to listen on YouTube. You might want to learn it as a family!

A Fall Legacy Morning with Dr. Kelly Flanagan 10/12
For MCS Moms and Dads

"ENOUGH"
[a conversation about worthiness]
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 12th
8-9:30 am
with author and blogger
Dr. Kelly Flanagan

One of Dr. Flanagan's blog posts that went viral was a love letter written to his young daughter. It was a musing on her worth. It reads:

Dear Cutie-Pie,

Recently, your mother and I were searching for an answer on Google. Halfway through entering the question, Google returned a list of the most popular searches in the world. Perched at the top of the list was "How to keep him interested."

It startled me. I scanned several of the countless articles about how to be sexy and sexual, when to bring him a beer versus a sandwich, and the ways to make him feel smart and superior.
And I got angry...[ click here to continue reading on the blog]

Dr. Flanagan is the author of "Loveable" and blog "Untangled." He has been featured in The Huffington Post, USA Today, Reader's Digest, babble, and on multiple podcasts on parenting and marriage. We are thrilled to welcome him to MCS for our first Legacy Morning of the year!

About MCS Legacy Events
Legacy events are a part of our Parent Enrichment/Education offerings. These are mornings that serve to intentionally help us pause and reflect and evaluate how we are building our legacy as parents and as a families. We lean heavily on experience from speakers who are either one step ahead of us in parenting, or who are able to share from a perspective that provides wisdom, inspiration and insight.

Scouting

Scouting Makes a Difference! As MCS parents, you want your son to grow up to be self-reliant, dependable and caring. Since 1910, Cub Scouts have been weaving lifelong values into fun and educational activities designed to assist parents by strengthening character, teaching participatory citizenship, promoting physical fitness and inspiring leadership. For over twenty years, Mariners Christian School has sponsored and supported Cub Scout Pack 0360, for boys in 1-5 grades at MCS.

Want to learn more? Contact Cubmaster Brian Cowell at [email protected] or Pack Chairman JR Richardson at [email protected].
Christian Fathers and Daughters

The Mariners Mighty Macatawa Tribe, Orange Blossom Native Nation (OBNN), is seeking fellow Christian fathers with daughters aged 5 and above, attending Mariners Christian School (MCS) in TK-5th grade. Our program provides terrific opportunities for fathers to connect with their daughters in environments and through activities that many young ladies would not normally experience, such as camping, canoeing, archery, rock climbing, fishing, horseback riding, hiking, skiing, or anything outdoors. For more information, please visit  www.OBNN.org. or email  [email protected].

Your Vision or God's Vision
Our 3 Student Worship Team Leaders led our middle school in worship on Monday morning, along with Mr. Lucas and Mr. Pax. Mr. Hellriegel then brought Psalm 16 to our students in a fresh way, encouraging us to look at this year with God's vision rather than our own vision, which tends to be distorted. When we put on God's glasses, he clearly lays out our path before us, and we chase after things of the Spirit rather than things of the flesh. Following the message, a powerful time ensued of students seeking prayer from their teachers and administrators over the year ahead. God is moving in the hearts of middle schoolers, and we are already seeing the fruits.

We Love Our New Students
We had a great time connecting with our new students Friday at lunch. We are so blessed to have them as part of the MCS community and can't wait to see what God has in store for them!

Dollar Dress Days - New Name/New Concept!!!

"Share 2 Wear" Tuesday (9/19): Monochromatic Day
Dollar Dress Days will not only have a new name this year but a new concept as well! From now on, these days will be known as Share 2 Wear days. Each month we will collect something different for a local organization we are serving, hence the "share" part. In return, the students will get to "wear" the clothes that follow the designated theme.

To keep it simple for the first month, the item students are "sharing" is $1 to help purchase socks for the homeless at Lighthouse, which is a serious need. Seventh graders will take these socks with them when they visit Lighthouse Homeless Shelter during their Serve and Solidarity Week in October.

Our first Share 2 Wear will take place this Tuesday, September 19.  The theme for this month's Wear 2 Share is Monochromatic Day! Each grade level has been assigned a color, and in order to participate, students will deck out in that color. We hope to get 100% student participation!

6th Grade = BLUE
7th Grade - WHITE
8th Grade = BLACK

On Tuesday morning, students will come to school in their grade level monochromatic color and bring $1 to share. Please be conscious of the dress code guidelines when selecting attire. If a student does not have bottoms in their assigned color, they may wear uniform bottoms or blue jeans. Let's go ALL OUT on the first Share 2 Wear, and deck MCS out in our grade-level colors!!!

Save the Date - See You at the Pole for Prayer (9/27 AM)
See You at the Pole™, the global day of student prayer, began in 1990 as a grass roots movement with ten students praying at their school. Twenty years later, millions pray on their campuses on the fourth Wednesday in September.

See You at the Pole™ is simply a prayer rally where students meet at the school flagpole (or other location) before school to lift up their friends, families, teachers, school, and nation to God.

See You at the Pole™ is a student-initiated, student-organized, and student-led event. Visit their website at: http://syatp.com/

We invite you to join the Middle School ASB on Wednesday, September 27th, before school begins. Look for more details forthcoming.
