Fall Workshops

Florida Agriculture in the Classroom is busy planning school garden themed workshops and teacher workshops with farm tours for the 2017-2018 school year. For more information for all workshops and to register please visit http://faitc.org/workshops/.
     Oct. 9: FAITC Keep It Fresh: School Garden Workshop  in Escambia County. FAITC is collaborating with UF/IFAS FNP and Extension, Live Well Partnership, From the Ground Up Community Garden and Escambia County School District to host a one-day school garden themed workshop in Cantonment at the UF/IFAS Extension 4-H Center. The morning session will include hands-on garden activities and the afternoon session will include FAITC school garden curriculum connections.      Nov. 3: FAITC Fall Workshop/Farm Tour (1st Stop) in Suwannee County.  The workshop will be held at the Suwannee Valley Agricultural Extension Center in Live Oak. Confirmed farm tour is the hydroponic facility at the Extension Center. More information will be on our website soon.  Registration fee is $10, lunch, supplies and transportation to farm tour will be included.      Nov. 7: FAITC Fall Workshop/Farm Tour (2nd Stop) in Jackson County. The workshop will be held at the Jackson County Agricultural Complex and Conference Center in Marianna.  Tour stops will include a cotton farm to see how cotton is harvested and Clover Leaf Cotton Gin to see how the cotton is processed. Teacher Grants

Florida K-12 teachers with projects that strengthen students' reading, writing, math, nutrition and science skills while educating them about the source of their food, fiber and fuel are in luck.  Florida Agriculture in the Classroom and other organizations are offering grant opportunities to fund these projects.
     FAITC Teacher Grants  - Eligible projects for Florida Agriculture in the Classroom's Teacher Grants include classroom and schoolyard gardens, animal science projects such as embryology and more.  The deadline for applications is September 30.      Dairy Council of Florida for Youth Wellness  -  Fuel Up to Play 60 is a free, in-school Nutrition and Physical Activity program, sponsored by the Dairy Council of Florida and the NFL. It's a youth led program to make sustainable change to health and wellness in their school and community around them. Applications are now open to apply for up to $4,000 for funding for Fuel Up to Play 60 related activities.  The deadline for applications is November 1st.      Environmental Education Fund -  Florida Association for Water Quality Control awards grants to a school, a civic or a community organization for a project related to awareness and understanding of a water related issue for more information visit  http://fawqc.com/environmental-education-fund/ .

Teacher Awards 

Florida teachers who use agriculture in innovative ways to teach reading, writing, math, nutrition, science and other subjects have two opportunities to win a free trip to National Agriculture in the Classroom's National Conference 'Agriculture is for ME' in Portland, ME June 26-29, 2018.
      Florida Agriculture in the Classroom offers its Florida Excellence in Teaching about Agriculture Award in which four winners (Elementary, Middle School, High School and Middle School Agriscience) are selected to receive cash prizes and a trip to the national conference. The deadline for application is Nov. 15, 2017. For guidelines and the online application visit  http://faitc.org/awards/.
      American Farm Bureau's Foundation for Agriculture offers another opportunity for general education teachers and educators nationwide to apply for scholarships to attend the national conference. The White-Reinhardt Scholarship pays up to $1,500 for teachers and educators to attend the national conference. The deadline for applications is Oct. 15, 2017.       National Agriculture in the Classroom Organization is accepting National Conference Workshop proposals for the 2018 'Show ME Agriculture' conference, due date is Oct. 6.  To submit a proposal visit https://naitcconference.usu.edu/Presenters.cfm .
