From The cherry Principal
Thank You Parents!
When we interview candidates for a position and tell them about our school, I always talk about how active and involved our parent community is. This past week the engagement was so apparent and I want to be sure to say Thank You!
We had our best turn-out ever for our first Parent-Principal coffee of the year. I appreciate the feedback and good ideas generated. We have had awesome volunteers that made our book fair and Literacy Night a success. A special shout-out to Kristan Bell, Karen Hand, Jennie Hanna, and Amy Turner. We could not have done it without them. We are also getting ready for our Fall after-school activities. Leslie Kohlmeyer has worked so hard to make the clubs a reality, plus we have a new Girls on the Run group starting with Katy Wilson.
I am so appreciative of the time and energy and talents that our parents share with us. You make our school a better place.
Heather Royce
K-3 Principal

Federal Programs Forms
There are a lot of MYTHS about completing the
Federal Forms and Free and Reduced Meal forms. Like this one:
I have four kids--does that mean I have to fill out four forms?
No! You fill out one form per family.
How do I do that?
You should have received an email from SchoolMint with a link to the online forms. If you did not receive this link, or if you cannot find it, contact Peggy Arians, 816-361-7735 or
parians@academielafayette.org
. Paper forms are available too.
You can also go to this link: Click
HERE
to go to the Federal Programs and Free & Reduced Meal form.
Anything else? YES! Every class that has 100% of their forms completed by September 30 will win an ice cream party! Yes -- do it for your kids.

PTSO Project: AL Cookbook
Dear Families,
We are
looking
for
recipes
for all types of cuisine, cooking styles, dietary restrictions, and skill levels for our AL cookbook! If you are willing to share a
recipe with us, please include the following information:
- A little bit about yourself
- A small blurb about the preparation or the dish itself (for example: "This is our go-to evening meal when we have soccer practice; it's fast and the kids love it." "Leftovers for this dish reheat really well, just pop it in the oven at 350º for 15 minutes")
- An estimate of the "skill level" of the dish
- Any recommendations you might have for the dish
We may not be able to include every submission in this year's edition but we will hold on to these
recipes for possible inclusion in future editions of the book. You will be notified by email if your
recipe is selected.

New Website, New Habits
As you know, our
website got a face lift this summer. While we love the new, fresh design, we know that it can make it a bit hard to find things now! Here are a few tips to help make navigation easier:
- Read our new website guide
- On our main page, scroll down to access the "Quick Links". Those will take you directly to sections such as eSchoolCore, meals, the PTSO and Spirit Wear websites, and more.
- Calendars:
- The link to access our calendar section is above our logo on the main page, in light grey. From there, you can download your own copy of the school and development calendars.
- You can also view the school's Google calendar that is embedded into our front page. Click on the + icon at the bottom right of the calendar to add this calendar to yours and never miss another event!
Can't find something?
Use the Sitemap (upper-right corner in light grey), or the search function. If you still cannot find what you are looking for, feel free to email
communication@academielafayette.org
, or send us a message on Facebook!

Space Still Available: Writing Club
Interested in having your child join an after school club? There is space left at Cherry in the writing club! All clubs will begin
September 20,
3:45-4:45
after school. The spaces are limited based on the number of coaches we have available. If you'd like your child to be in one of these spaces you will need to send me an essay from your child. It need only be 3-5 sentences stating why they'd like to be in the club. It will not be judged. The purpose of the essay is simply to show us that there is genuine interest by your child. Essays can be sent to Leslie Kohlmeyer, lkohlmeyer@academielafayette.org
. The clubs are filled on a first come first served basis.
