Ecological Gardening Symposium 

Join us for an afternoon learning how to become the steward of your landscape! Presenters will introduce you to the basic principles and benefits of ecological gardening. Discover a lower-maintenance approach to garden and a way to welcome birds and other wildlife to your yard. 

We'll explore ecological ways to improve your soil, techniques to select the ideal native plants for your growing conditions, how to monitor and manage invasive plants, and so much more! Presentations will be full of images and anecdotes from our presenters' case studies and growing experiences.

Speakers:

Theresa Sprague of BlueFlax Design

Theresa Sprague owns BlueFlax Design and works directly with property owners and conservation commissions on invasive species management and restoration projects throughout Cape Cod. Prior to forming her own company, BlueFlax Design, Ms. Sprague was responsible for coordinating restoration projects from design through construction. She holds a M.S. in Ecological Design from The Conway School.

Claudia Thompson of Grow Native Massachusetts

Ms. Thompson founded Grow Native Massachusetts in 2010 with a conviction that the wise stewardship of our lands begins at home, and that our future rests upon a 21st century attitudetoward conservation that embraces human activity as integral to our ecosystem. Claudia has had an extensive career as an environmental educator—including roles as the Director of Education for the Appalachian Mountain Club, Director of Drumlin Farm for Mass Audubon, and serving on the board of the New England Wild Flower Society. Claudia’s happiest moments are spent in her own gardens, watching a diversity of birds in the habitat she and her husband have created in urban Cambridge.

Rebecca Warner author of The Sustainable-Enough Garden

Rebecca Warner is a home gardener in Newton with thirty years’ experience working toward a sustainable garden. Her book, The Sustainable-Enough Garden is the story of her quest to make a beautiful garden that’s environmentally friendly. In the last six years she has overhauled her garden practices, from composting to mulching, lawn care to irrigation. She blogs weekly.
