Dear Team and Family,

 

We are gearing up for another exciting year at KIPP Baltimore. With the release of 2016-17 state and district test scores this week, I want to take a moment to reflect on where we are and where we're headed.

 

As you know, this is the third year our students have taken the statewide PARCC assessment, which is aligned with college-readiness standards. This is just one of many measures that KIPP Baltimore and other schools across the state use to gauge how our students are doing on the path to college and choice-filled lives.

 

I am proud to say that KIPP Baltimore's students outperformed their district peers in all tested grades and subjects. However, our focus remains on growing the proficiency of our students each year. In most subjects, our students showed growth compared to where they were last year. Of particular note, our 6th and 7th grade students grew in both ELA and math, and our 4th and 8th grade students grew in ELA, compared to their scores from 2015-16.

 

While these scores are promising, we know that there is still much work to do to get our students ready to succeed in college and beyond. Our students' scores, while higher than the average for our community, are still not where we aspire to be. In the year to come, we are committed to improving our practice in the classroom and helping students meet high standards in every subject.
