Covid Chronicles-Week 6

Hard to believe we have all been sheltering in place for 6 weeks now. Time seems so strange these days. Over this week, I realized how, my life as a retailer is so dependent on the calendar . Retail work life is organized by deadlines, purchase order dates, delivery windows, payroll deadlines and projected sales goal figures.

Additionally, we are constantly evaluating where we stand in terms of time periods. Was it a good day or bad day? Where do sales stand for the month? How does the first week of April this year compare to last year? This is what buzzes around most retailers' minds.....constantly. Now we need to reinvent all those guideposts.

These days, time seems so much more malleable. Almost like a lava lamp, everything moving, some time times fast, some times slow. Just when you think, "Okay, I got this. I'm doing great. I'm making my way up to the top of this thing," you hit a bump and find yourself down at the bottom again....having to give it another try.

So I guess that's where I am this week. Life is still in motion, but I can't quite see the end of the tunnel yet. This time in isolation has forced me to let go of what day-to-day life used to look like. Life in the future isn't clearly in view yet. So what can we do? Just take one day at a time. Don't beat ourselves up for feeling unmotivated some days. We are all doing the best we can....together apart.

Sending love to all of you. Thanks you for supporting me and the store through this challenging time. I appreciate each and everyone of you.
