PTSA NEWS
SCHOOL IS BACK IN SESSION!

At last school is back in session and I would like to take a moment
to reflect on the really great school our children are attending.

International School has consistently been in the top 100 high schools in various national magazine rankings and other highly regarded academic rankings.

We are promoting and integrating the 21 st century skills  into our classrooms for students to better navigate their post-secondary education and plans. Our laptop 1-1 is their primary learning tool and with OneNote, the information provided by teachers is accessible across the board to all students. Collaboration between students is encouraged and facilitated by International Schools use of technology and teaching.

I am proud my student is attending IS, are you?  If you would like to learn more about our school and its community, come to our General Meeting October 3
rd
, 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm.

PTSA MEMBERSHIP NEWS

Our goal this year is 100% Membership in PTSA. That means we need 580 PTSA members.   How does it work?  Simple, we need one member for every student.

Dual membership of $35 supports two students. Single membership supports one student. We usually have 350 members but that is in the past.  New year, new ideas, new goal.

ISPTSA has kicked off our new year with some really supportive parents and guardians becoming or renewing their membership with ISPTSA. THANK YOU!  Each week we will highlight our new members as we stretch to reach our goal. Please remember to get your PTSA membership We are counting on you. Any questions, please contact Joanie at [email protected].

201 7  HIGH SCHOOL RETREAT: Sept. 7-8, 2017
The International School offers an annual retreat for our high school students in order to build community and realize its mission of providing students with a globally focused education. The academic content of the retreat follows a four-year cycle of geographic and cultural regions including Africa, Latin America, Asia, and the Middle East. The retreat's objectives are for students to explore a few forms of  African cultural expression; to understand some of the challenges facing different African societies and the power we and the world community have to address them; and to appreciate the value of the IS community and its contribution to our overall success for the coming school year.
High school students (grades 9-12) will come to school the morning of Thursday, September  7
th  and will be bussed to Camp  Warm Beachnear Stanwood. They will spend the night there and will return by bus the following day, Friday, September 8th by 2:30 pm.
The registration fee is $100 . The fee for the retreat has been added to your student's account online so you may pay online .  Scholarships available! Contact the office.

Retreat Chaperone Volunteers Needed! Join Us!
The trip is only possible with your support! Our greatest need is for cabin chaperones; we need 12 male and 12 female chaperones to stay in cabins with students. We  also need some of those chaperones to ride to camp and back on buses and to chaperone during the Thursday afternoon sessions, evening activities, Friday morning meetings, andmeals. We recognize that some parents can be available overnight but may need to drive separately after work or late in the afternoon.
If you are able to chaperone please let us know the following:
·        If you can ride the bus and stay for the entire retreat or will need to drive separately
·        If you are coming separately, what time will you plan to arrive and to leave Camp Schechter (approximately)
·        Your cell phone
·        Best email address to reach you
Please consider volunteering for this valuable student experience!

Thank you!
