Dear St. Stephen's Family,
This Sunday, September 3, 2017, is the 13th Sunday after Pentecost and it is Rev. Ernie Boyer's first Sunday as our Interim Pastor. He will preside over the 8:00 am and 10:00 am services. Please join us to welcome Ernie at coffee hour after the 10:00 am service.
We are now in need of a Vestry Clerk
. The Vestry Clerk takes the minutes of all of the vestry meetings. He/she then types up the meetings and sends a draft of the minutes out to the vestry members for feedback. The minutes are then reviewed and approved at the next monthly vestry meeting. The Vestry Clerk is a non-voting member of the vestry and is essential for vestry record keeping. The skills that you will need are: good note taking skills at meetings and ability to type up the notes into a template and then send out to the vestry members by email. You will need to be able to discern what should go into the minutes and ask questions if not sure. You will need to be able to attend most of the vestry meetings, which are the second Thursday of each month at 7:00 pm at St. Stephen's Church. Please let me know if you are interested.
The Golf Tournament was a big success. Those who attended had a wonderful time. Details will follow in the next couple of weeks as we get all of the donations in. Many thanks to Tom Good for organizing this and making it possible. Many thanks also to the numerous people who helped Tom at the Golf Tournament. Many thanks for the 14 gorgeous baskets that members of the church made for the raffle and for the many silent auction items donated. And, many thanks for all of you who played golf and attended the dinner.
Please keep the vestry, the Rector Search Committee, and Rev. Ernie Boyer in your prayers. The vestry is working hard to keep St. Stephen's operating smoothly and the Rector Search Committee is working hard to create our church profile. Ernie will be leading us through the rest of our transition, preparing us to call our next Rector. Please pray that God will guide us all and that we will have open hearts and minds as we make decisions for the church during this transition.
Save the Date:
Bishop Mary is leading a Transition Retreat (click here for flyer) for us on Sept. 15 (Friday evening) and Sept. 16, 2017 at St. Stephen's church. September 15, 2017 (Friday evening) will be for the vestry and the Rector Search Committee to meet with Bishop Mary. Saturday, September 16, 2017, will be for the whole congregation to attend. Bishop Mary will lead us through reflective discernment as we search for a new priest. Please mark your calendar because it is very important that you attend and participate in the retreat.

THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HELPED MAKE OUR GOLF TOURNAMENT A HUGE SUCCESS !
Well, our 2017 tournament has come and gone! Although the day itself is over the event goes on, as we continue to receive donations. Each year I am amazed at the outpouring of generosity by the St. Stephen's Community, their friends and local businesses. We are still finalizing the numbers but it looks as though this year's event was very successful.
It would be impossible to hold this event without the team that helps pull it together each year. I am extremely grateful to all of you! When I looked around the room at the dinner that evening, seeing the joy and fellowship being shared, it showed what a special place St. Stephen's is! If you stop and think that we had only six members of the church who play golf, but had a total of 40 golfers coming from as far as Atlanta. When you see a dinner of over 100 people, including three generations of one family. When the generosity of those in attendance raises funds that allows us to continue supporting our Outreach programs, it makes all the hard work worthwhile.
This event is not just a golf tournament and party, it is a Ministry that over the past 14 years has helped us touch the lives of those in our community, and shows people a part of what a strong faith community is. Thank you again for your unwavering support of this Ministry!
Tom

A MESSAGE FROM JANET THORSRUD
What a wonderful time we had at the dinner at Cinnabar on Monday!
Kudo's to Tom and his team.
Next Sunday the 10th will be the next order date for
Gift Cards.
While Trig and I were visiting with the Sato's in Colorado, Judi thought we would love to see the movie
"All Saints" which is about an Episcopal church.
So, if you can meet me at
Oakridge Mall on Tuesday, September 5, at 7:30 pm and we can see it together. If anyone needs a ride, let me know. You can eat dinner in the food court if you like before the movie. I will be there around 6:30 pm. You can use your Cinemark gift cards to buy your ticket and refreshments. I will be using my Chipotle gift card to buy my dinner. Yum!! WHAT???? You don't have any of these cards? Be sure and order them on the 10th for next time.
Hope to see you there.

PRAY FOR THE RECTOR SEARCH
 COMMITTEE
Dear Lord, Heavenly Father, we, the people of St. Stephen's ask for your blessings on the members of the Search Committee. Bless them in their meetings, in their deliberations and in their discernment. Keep their hearts and minds open to the Holy Spirit and to wherever You will lead them in this process.
Guide them in their deliberations while they prepare the St. Stephen's Profile which will be posted to the National Office of Transitional Ministry (OTM). Please allow this process to be completed with ease and joy.
We trust you and we know that you will bring us the best possible Rector for St. Stephen's as you have done for us before. Thank you, Heavenly Father for all your blessings on the Search Committee and this congregation.
