Youth Development
The summer camp and outdoor pool supplies are all packed away for
another year and the lineup of fall youth sports programs are set at all of our YMCA branches. The YMCA of Washington County will be offering flag football, soccer and volleyball for youth staring in September. All of our youth sports programs focus on the YMCA values of Respect, Responsibility, Honesty and Caring while developing skills and building character. The YMCA programs are available to everyone and financial assistance is available to make sure that every young athlete gets the opportunity to be a part of a team.
HEALTHY LIVING
Pete & Sandy Weller can be found in our weight room several times a week and attending our senior strength classes on a regular basis; recently we had the opportunity to sit down to talk with them about what the YMCA means to them. "I think the Y saved our lives" Sandy said as her opening thought about their experience at the YMCA, Pete continues "There is no question in my mind that coming here has enhanced the quality of life that Sandy and I have." It's  sentiments like these that make us very proud of the healthy living options that we offer to our members. The YMCA of Washington County focuses on providing healthy living options for all of our members and we have new class options at all of our branches for the month of September that we hope will reach more of our members. So now that the kids are back in school and the weather is getting  cooler come join one of our fitness classes that are free with your membership.

Social Responsibility

The YMCA of Washington County received a very special surprise recently when a young man that attends our summer camp presented us with a check for $100. Eight year old Erik Goselin took the Hills Bank Lemon Boss Challenge and set up lemon aide stands at various locations for several weeks to earn money that he donated to the YMCA of Washington County and was also able to put some in his savings account. Thank you Erik for your hard work to earn the money and for giving back to your community. We are very proud to be a part of your generosity.

NEW YMCA SWIM LESSONS    Can't find the fish?

Can't find the fish?
YMCA Swim Lessons are Getting an Update! Download this flyer for a detailed description of the new program.
As "America's Swim Instructor," the Y has been teaching kids how to be safe around water for decades. The YMCA changed our swim lesson structure to simplify and more accurately describe skill levels.
What is different? We made two key changes to swim lessons:
Name changes: Lesson names are changing to stages that better reflect the skills learned and we're moving away from the identifying fish levels. The aquatics director at our Y will help you determine which stage is appropriate for your children.
Curriculum changes: We're also changing the curriculum to better serve different learning styles of our youth participants. We've simplified the structure by focusing on benchmark skills and goals in each stage. Students progress from fundamentals to stroke technique over 6 distinct stages.
Swimming lessons are essential for kids to become safe around water. It also helps them learn to set and achieve goals. We're looking forward to launching this new swim lesson structure and helping many more young people build swimming confidence.
