It is with great sadness that we announce that Child Care Links' long-time Executive Director, Carol Thompson, passed away on July 28, 2017. Carol's dedication to, and advocacy for, the children and families of Alameda County is well known and will be remembered by her colleagues, co-workers and the families she served.
Carol retired in December 2016 after over 35 years at Child Care Links. Below is a link to an article celebrating Carol's life's work that was published in the Pleasanton Weekly in December 2016. Click here to read the article.
In lieu of flowers, Carol's family asks that donations be made to Child Care Links.

Child Care Funding Update
|
Significant features in the final state budget for child care include:
- Total funding for child care and preschool is up $320 million this year, brining the total to $3.9 billion.
- Hundreds of thousands of children will stay in quality child care because income eligibility guidelines have been increased and California adopted 12 months of continuous eligibility.
- In response to Governor Brown's proposal to exempt preschools run by school districts from health and safety regulations - a group of stakeholders will examine the regulations and recommend the appropriate action.

Choosing child care is one of the most important decisions families make, but all too often they must rely on word-of-mouth.
There are many features to consider when choosing a child care program for your family. Quality indicators include, but are not limited to:

- Low teacher to child ratios
- Age appropriate learning activities
- Engaging and safe learning environments
- Activities that support physical, social and emotional growth
- Qualified staff with professional development opportunities

What is Subsidized Child Care? It's another way of saying Child Care Assistance Program.
California's Subsidized Child Care Programs provide an invaluable service to many of the state's most-in-need families. They allow parents to provide for their family, while ensuring that their children receive appropriate care.
Ideally, this care is offered at no or little cost so that low-income working parents are able to pursue and achieve economic independence while their children are cared for in safe, stimulating, and nurturing environments.
