Commandants Message
O nce again the summer months are starting to wind down, the events we’ve had are in our memory to look back on. The up and coming are yet to present themselves to our pleasure.
September is our first month of nominations for the executive board positions. All up to date paid Marine members are eligible to vote. Voting will take place in October during our regular meeting. You must have your Marine I.D. with you when you sign in so we can check you off on the roster as being a member. You can nominate anyone of our Marine members for any of the 8 positions that will be up for the vote. Vote for the Marine you think is qualified to perform the positions duties to the fullest ability, and taking the detachment to the next level.

In the September/October time slot, we will be submitting to the Conservation Committee our request for Intent to Build/Replace our seawall. We are hoping for a smooth sail thru this process with the City of Worcester and the Lake Commission.

The fall season will be here before we know it. The Children’s Halloween Party, Columbus Day Parade, Marine Corps Birthday, and the list goes on, we will be ready.

Floatin’ in ecstasy: Veterans suffering from PTSD may soon find help from an unlikely source

The main ingredient of ecstasy, a psychedelic drug, was recently designated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration as a “breakthrough therapy” for treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder.

Typically used in recreational settings, MDMA’s effects have shown — throughout clinical trials — to significantly improve the mental well-being of individuals suffering from PTSD.

With FDA cooperation, continued studies will soon get underway and will be led by the California-based nonprofit, Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies, or MAPS, an organization that has been researching the effects of MDMA for over 30 years.

Millions more vets to be able to shop at exchanges online
Honorably discharged veterans could be able to shop online at military exchange websites as early as Veterans Day, barring any objections from Congress.
The change in Defense Department policy would open up online exchange shopping privileges to about 18 million more people. It won’t apply to shopping at brick-and-mortar exchange stores.
