SAUSD TO ADD FIVE INDUCTEES TO ITS WALL OF FAME TODAY 
The Santa Ana Unified School District (SAUSD) will celebrate five individuals today as they are inducted into the SAUSD Wall of Fame, located at the Santa Ana Public Schools Sports Complex. The 2017 inductees are Reece "Pinky" Greene, Myron White, Don Shuler, Imelda Nava and Erasmo Ramirez. The event takes place at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, September 1, 2017 at the Santa Ana Public Schools Sports Complex, 1801 S. Greenville St. in Santa Ana. SAUSD'S CÍRCULOS HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM CONCEPT TO BE FEATURED ON NATIONAL XQ SUPER SCHOOL LIVE TV BROADCAST 
 
SAUSD's Círculos High School program concept is being awarded a $2.5 million grant for development by the XQ Institute as part of its Super School Project, which aims to rethink high school in America. Elements of Círculos are being implemented this fall at Advanced Learning Academy, Century High School and Cesar E. Chavez High School. Círculos will get national exposure on September 8, 2017 during the star-studded XQ Super School Live TV broadcast, and SAUSD is inviting the community to a special viewing party at the Frida Cinema to celebrate! SUPERINTENDENT DR. STEFANIE PHILLIPS MAKES HER 'PLEDGE' TO SAUSD STUDENTS
  
SAUSD's new I Pledge  campaign , in which students are taking pledges alongside their classmates affirming that they will do their absolute best in their classes and graduate from high school on time, is off to a successful start. To symbolize their affirmation, every student has received a sticker that states "I Pledge" and the year of their high school graduation. SAUSD is also encouraging staff, parents and community members to pledge support for District scholars by taking their own unique oath. ALL-CLASS ALUMNI REUNION CELEBRATION COMING TO SANTA ANA HIGH SCHOOL 
Calling all Saints! An all-class alumni reunion celebration, hosted by

SAUSD STUDENTS ACCEPTED INTO ACHIEVEMENT INSTITUTE OF SCIENTIFIC STUDIES
Students from six SAUSD schools are joining the 2019 class of the Achievement Institute of Scientific Studies (AISS), a nonprofit organization started by longtime SAUSD teacher and administrator Paul Riordan that helps economically disadvantaged Santa Ana students get accepted into and finish college. AISS welcomes a new class of scholars every two years. Students recently finished a 7-week AISS program at the South Coast Metro campus of the University of Redlands. "AISS is extremely excited about our new Class of 2019 scholars," said Debbie Wells, Executive Director of AISS. "We're so proud of how much they have accomplished by committing more than 150 hours during the summer preparing for their futures." To read more, click here.
WINNERS NAMED IN SAUSD BACK TO SCHOOL PHOTO CONTEST
The SAUSD Back to School Photo Contest has ended. Congratulations to the following winners! 1st place: Grizzly Gazette students from Godinez Fundamental High School. Their photo received a total of 539 likes and the students will be rewarded with a pizza party. 2nd place: A photo of Esqueda Elementary students submitted by Cynthia Mireles with 494 likes. This winner will also receive a 4-pack of tickets to the Santa Ana Zoo. 3rd place: A photo of a Washington Elementary student submitted by Alejandra Rodriguez with 420 likes. This winner will receive a $25 gift card to Target. The contest has become a popular Back to School tradition in the SAUSD community. This year, more than 70 pictures were submitted, more than 46,000 people viewed the contest photo gallery, and more than 7,000 people commented on, "liked" or shared the contest photos. GODINEZ, MIDDLE COLLEGE STUDENT JOURNALISTS EARN HONORS AT CONFERENCE

Student journalists from Middle College High School and Godinez Fundamental High School recently spent four days learning about newspaper reporting and writing, social media, broadcasting and editing during the Newspapers2 Camp at Long Beach City College.

From the MCHS Spellbinder staff, Alexis Rodriguez won "Head of the Class" for his multimedia group. Students Kasandra Tapia, Elizabeth Alvarado and Berenice Cortez also gave it their all and acquired new skills in social media, editor-in-chief leadership, and photography.

Godinez students placed in camp competitions as well. Rodrigo Macias won "Head of the Class" for broadcasting, Alexa Cervantes won first place in the Maestro Project (a team project reporting and writing a story on recycling), and Jacqueline Pompa won second place in the Maestro Project for her team's reporting and writing about a sculptor on campus. Rounding out Godinez's group were Alex Reyes, a participant in reporting, and Neitan Mayorga, a participant in reporting.
SALAD BAR LUNCH OPTION COMING TO SADDLEBACK, SPURGEON

Saddleback High School's Back to School night buzzed with excitement recently when parents and students discovered that a student salad bar will debut at the school on September 18, 2017. With the addition of Saddleback, all comprehensive high schools in SAUSD will have a salad bar lunch option. The District is also planning to pilot a salad bar option at Spurgeon Intermediate in October, said Mark Chavez, Director of Nutrition Services. "The District is listening to our parents, students and community at large and have heard that they want more fruit and vegetable choices with students meals," he said. To read more, click here.
CITY OF SANTA ANA SEEKS FEEDBACK ON WEBSITE REDESIGN

The City of Santa Ana has embarked on a project to redesign its website, implement a website content management system, and implement an open data portal. The new website will be mobile friendly, provide stronger search capabilities, and will allow content to be updated faster. It will also be integrated to social media and electronic newsletters and will provide an open data portal. The city is asking residents to take a quick online survey to gain feedback on the project at www.santa-ana.org/survey.
CAMBODIAN FAMILY COMMUNITY CENTER OFFERS RESOURCES TO SAUSD FAMILIES

The Cambodian Family Community Center would like to share with the SAUSD community some resources that may be beneficial to SAUSD families. For more information on any of these, click here. 1) Registration is now open for the Cambodian Family's Plan Ahead Youth Program. 2) In collaboration with four community-based organizations and with the support from the California Reducing Disparities Project, the center is pleased to offer Community Wellness Program, targeting Cambodian communities in the greater Long Beach and Santa Ana area. 3) In partnership with Susan G. Komen Orange County, the center is offering Cambodian Breast Health Education and Support Together project, aiming to increase access of limited-English-proficient Cambodian women in Orange County to breast health care services. Mark your calendars! The Annual Parent Conference & Community Fair is coming up from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on October 14, 2017 at Saddleback High School, 2802 S. Flower St. in Santa Ana. Parents, educators and administrators will participate in a day-long series of workshops, informative sessions, and community fair designed to help parents assist their students in achieving success.
