President's Message

Each year on September 26, we honor and remember victims of asbestos for Mesothelioma Awareness Day. This year, ADAO is kicking it up a notch to make the whole month of September Mesothelioma Awareness Month!

You have several options for honoring your Mesothelioma Warrior throughout the month, but we have a big deadline coming up soon! Be sure to take action by  September 4  to be a part of these powerful tributes and events.
  • Support ADAO by Joining a Miles for Meso Virtual Team
    • The annual Miles for Meso Charity Race raises thousands of dollars for asbestos education, and you can participate right from your couch by joining one of our Virtual Teams! Just register online as a racer and add your name to one of ADAO's teams: #ENDMeso, ZEVONISTAS, or Team Michael Bradley.
  • Miles for Meso Tribute Bibs
    • Miles for Meso race participants can run in honor of Mesothelioma Warriors by wearing tribute bibs. There is no cost to submit a name for a tribute bib.
  • ADAO's 2017 Memorial Dedication Video
    • Each year, we create this video to honor and remember the loved ones we have lost to asbestos. To include your Warrior in the 2017 video, just complete this simple form and attach their photo.
  • Raise Your Voice || 6-Word Quote Campaign to #ENDMeso
    • Turn your anger into action! Submit your six-word quote, along with a photo, about how asbestos or mesothelioma has impacted your life to be featured in ADAO's latest advocacy campaign.
I'd also like to invite you to close out this month of awareness and action by joining us online on September 26 for a Mesothelioma Awareness Day #ENDMeso Twitter chat with a rich group of Warriors, experts, advocates, and more. Together, we can expand Mesothelioma Awareness from just a day or month and make it our mantra!

ADVOCACY

At ADAO, we know that partnerships and collaboration are crucial elements of making change happen. We're thrilled to share the wealth of international support coming from our global allies in support of our petition calling on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to ban asbestos now without loopholes or exemptions.

We'll be sharing weekly guest blogs from strong global partners up until  September 19, when we will submit the petition into the EPA's official record on asbestos. Check out the first two messages from our Asian allies Union Aid Abroad-APHEDA and our South African ally Dr. Claire Deacon.

SHARE YOUR STORY

In honor of Mesothelioma Awareness Month, we'd like to highlight our Share Your Story Collection, which features more than 200 personal accounts from victims of asbestos and their families. These incredibly powerful stories strengthen our bonds of community and help us educate lawmakers as we fight to ban asbestos.

Sincerest thanks to every brave Warrior who has shared their story so far. If you are ready to share your story, you can do so at bit.ly/ADAOShareYourStory.
