ADVOCATE
Advancing towards transportation solutions for Tahoe

The League recognizes the importance of finding ways to get around Tahoe without a car - more car trips means more pollution for Lake Tahoe. Tahoe's decades-old transportation problems are complex, and even though smart people in Tahoe have been working on solutions to traffic congestion issues for a long time, there has been little improvement. Meanwhile, the Lake suffers. We want to see on-the-ground projects advanced now to inform long-term solutions for the region.

This month, we presented a pilot bike share program to decision makers at the Lake Tahoe Summit to show an example of an on-the-ground solution that is successfully providing residents and visitors with an alternative to their private vehicles. We also helped steer the conversation at recent meetings between California and Nevada officials towards testing new and innovative transportation options. One outcome of these meetings is a special task force, chaired by the League, that will explore additional transportation pilot programs for Tahoe.

EDUCATE
Stewards of Stormwater protect Lake Tahoe

Nearly 60 volunteers, including students from the University of Nevada, Reno and Girl Scout troops 1126 and 1285, joined the League and the City of South Lake Tahoe to educate the community about stormwater impacts to Lake Tahoe. Together, the volunteers installed metal markers saying "No Dumping - Keep Tahoe Blue" in English and Spanish onto 80 storm drains throughout Al Tahoe and Highland Woods neighborhoods and removed 70 pounds of litter. COLLABORATE
Wrapping up Eyes on the Lake training season
Our Eyes on the Lake program wrapped up its 2017 training season with a garden party at High Sierra Gardens in Incline Village (one of the League's Blue Business members). Altogether this year, we certified 95 community members to help prevent the spread of aquatic invasive plants at Tahoe. If you did not make it to a training this year, you can find tips on identifying aquatic invasive plants on our website. We'll be back with more Eyes on the Lake trainings in 2018!
