September's
attribute is COURAGE!
I will stand up for my beliefs and principles and face challenges, fear and difficulty with fortitude.
"
Courage is demonstrated by people who stand up for what they believe in their heart to be the right thing to do, even when others don't support them and might try to convince them that they are wrong. "
Each month we will bring to you a character initiative that we hope you and your company will embrace, to build strong and compassionate employees with loyalty and respect.

Richmond Hill, ON - On Wednesday August 23rd, the Richmond Hill Board of Trade (RHBOT) introduced a pilot project to their members that will connect Asian and Persian communities with the larger business and local community. Earlier this year, the Board submitted an application to the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF), for this pilot program and received a $45,000 Seed grant at the start of the summer to get the project in motion. The outcome of this will be to help the businesses grow and prosper as well as have businesses identify the RHBOT as a go to resource in the business community.

Managing change is hard. Ask any middle manager. Some would say, managing change in a sales environment is harder. Change Management methodology is not a magic pill but a thorough behavioral predictability model to give you the best chance possible for facilitating the change stickiness.

On Your Mark. Get Set. Commute!
On Wednesday, July 26,
York Region embarked on the first Great Commute Challenge. Smart Commute Markham, Richmond Hill helped coordinate the challenge and encouraged three employees from SCMRH workplaces to commute from the Markham Civic Centre to the Town of Richmond Hill municipal offices by cycling, transit and carpooling. Leila Oozeer (cyclist), Luxmi Shanmuganantha (transit rider) and Reena Mistry (driver/carpooler) experienced the dedicated bike lanes, transit rapid ways and six road lanes on Highway 7 during the peak hours of the morning commute. All three participants began their journeys at 8:50 am from the City of Markham, with Leila Oozeer arriving at the Town of Richmond Hill by 9:05 am, followed by Luxmi Shanmugananthan at 9:15 am and Reena Mistry at 9:18 am. We'd like to congratulate all three participants on their valiant efforts and thank them for participating in the Great Commuter Challenge!

In August, Smart Commute Markham, Richmond Hill had the opportunity to interview Sonia Singla from WSP Canada for our
Cycling Superstar
series. She provided our readers with an in-depth look into her cycling journeys and routes, the benefits of cycling, and the tips and tricks she'd offer to first-time cyclists or cyclists who are ready to take the next steps in their own journeys.
From June to August, Smart Commute MRH has featured many stories and interviews from cyclists as part of our Cycling Superstar series. With only one story left to publish, we would like to extend a thank you to all of our workplace employees who have submitted their cycling stories and provided their tips and insights to help others choose cycling as a sustainable commuting option to get to work!
Stay tuned during Smart Commute Month for the launch of our newest blog series, Sustainable Superstar, which features a new story each week from our Smart Commute MRH workplace employees who use various sustainable modes of transportation to get to work.
