You may be familiar with the name "Mary Cariola Children's Center," but you might not know what the Center actually does and the role it plays in people's lives throughout Monroe County.
The organization was founded in 1944 by Mary Cariola, after her nephew was born with physical and developmental disabilities. When her nephew reached school age, the family could not find a setting for him in which to learn and socialize. Mary Cariola developed a solution to this problem by beginning a day care center for handicapped children- a place for children where they could have social, recreational and educational experiences.
Seventy years later, Mary Cariola Children's Center has grown by leaps and bounds. The school serves 450 students, ages 3-21. Its residential facilities house nearly 50 students across the county serving children with multiple complex disabilities. To provide these services, MCCC employs 700 people; it is now the 48th largest employer in Monroe County.

Founded in 1951, Aspenleiter recently moved into the old Methodist Church at the Penfield Four Corners. Aspenleiter sells new vacuum cleaners and repairs broken ones- no matter how old! They also service sewing machines and other small appliances including Kitchenaid mixers. Most recently, the business began offering one-on-one lessons to teach customers how to use their own personal sewing machine. Aspenleiter strives to give their best to everyone that walks in their doors.
