What's New for 2017-2018?
Quite a lot!
"Our Vision-The Next Ten Years"
You have seen the new banners on campus. If you haven't been able to attend a meeting yet to learn about our Board of Trustees' exciting vision for the next ten years, don't worry. We will highlight the plans again at Back to School Night (Do you have that evening on your calendar yet? Wednesday, September 13, at 6:30 p.m.). and at subsequent gatherings during the fall.
College Counseling for the Public
RHP launches its college counseling services to the public with a One-Day College Essay Workshop next Saturday, September 9. Click the link below for more information and please forward to any families with public school seniors you may know.
Curricular
- We have added a new Advanced Placement Computer Science Principles class.
- Click here for information on our burgeoning Global Studies programs.
- Look soon for the roll out of our Upper School Specialized Diplomas: opportunities for very highly motivated students to apply to take a specialized track in upper school in either Math and Science, Global Studies, or Arts.
- Renaissance has opened a stand-alone one-room school house option called CLASS (Career, Life, Academic, and Social Skills) with an emphasis on practical and business studies. Nine students are currently enrolled.
- Work on the newly acquired Palos Verdes Blue Butterfly Reserve, immediately adjacent to campus, will accelerate this year.
After School Program Fee Reduction
Fees for RHP's restructured After School Program have been significantly reduced this year (from an annual $4,600 to just $1,800) with an additional option to pre-enroll as an occasional drop-in student for just $50 a session. Full details and enrollment form can be found by clicking the link below. (ACE and Renaissance families will know that their ASP details are a little different).
Parent-Teacher Conferences
RHP holds its first set of conferences in late October. No change there. However, later in the year (February 1 and 2) we are piloting Student-Led Conferences in place of the usual advisor letter communication. Students will partner with their advisors in short conferences with their parents detailing their progress and their goals for the second half of the year. Stay tuned for further details.

Help for Houston
Two parallel efforts here, both led by our students:
- Supporting basic needs: providing aid to local children and families: supplies, clothing, personal affects. You will have received an email on Friday with details and instructions. Please contact Jill Notch at [email protected]. Huge thanks to Michelle Castillo's company for providing transportation.
- Providing Comfort for the Children: Our student council is partnering with The Kincaid School, a peer independent school in Houston, in their efforts to comfort local children with a Teddy Bear Drive.
