Hi Friends,
Our September 7
th meeting is going to be awesome!
We have our biggest yarn raffle ever, thanks to overwhelming yarn donations during our Yarn: The Movie event. Check the couch for spare change because there will be some fabulous yarn on the tables.
We will be having a special guest, Beth Brown-Reinsel, as our featured speaker. She is in town for a weekend event at Yarn Rhapsody and they are "loaning" her to us for the evening. How lucky are we to have such an amazing talent drop in and educate us?

st is the last day you can register for early bird pricing for
our Fall Superstar event with Marly Bird. She is coming to Atlanta October 6-8, 2017 and is teaching an exciting variety of classes: Curvy Knits, Brioche, Entrelac in the Round, Lace and Cables and Reading Crochet charts.

Programs
September Program
Beth Brown-Reinsel has been teaching historic knitting workshops for over 25 years both in the United States and abroad. Her love of traditional methods and her skill in imparting that information to others is well known. She shares her passion through her traditional patterns, workshops, and Knit-Along (KAL) classes. Her workshops are known for the little sweaters which are the class samplers. These small garments teach construction techniques in context rather than through meaningless swatches. Beth wrote the classic book
Knitting Ganseys
and has produced three DVDs. Her warm and supportive teaching style and her generous and thorough handouts have made her a favorite with guilds, shops, and all the national conferences.

Mini -
Workshops

Thanks to all who participated in our informal poll of topics you would like to see as mini workshops. The most enthusiastic response was for a workshop on a variety of techniques that can be used on bear sweaters. We are planning such an event in mid to late October with several teachers and you can move from one to the other as desired. Those of you who are taking the Marly Bird class on entrelac might want to practice on a bear sweater and we'll have someone who can help with that. Please join us to help dress our large collection of naked bears! Stay tuned for details on future workshops. Meg Fisher/mini workshops

Greetings from the Superstar planning committee! We are nearing the end of our early bird pricing period for our October 5th-8th Superstar weekend with Marly Bird; you have until August 31st.

Fee schedule:
· Until August 31, 2017: AKG member: $65 per 3 hour class, all 5 classes: $290, non-member: $75 per 3 hour class, all 5 classes: $350.
· Sept 1, 2017 to October 5, 2017: AKG member: $75 per 3 hour class, all 5 classes: $345, non-member: $85 per 3 hour class, all 5 classes: $400.
We are at half way to our ticket sales goal. Remember that we have priced the classes as low as possible to break even if we meet our projection. It's a great benefit of AKG membership that we bring a national knitting superstar to us in Atlanta for classes lower then conventions and without the added cost of travel.
How can you help us reach our sales goal? Spread the word by posting about it on social media; the guild has a facebook page, a public facebook group, a ravelry group, and a meet up group. We made a flyer to be posted at local yarn shops and SEFA. In our final push we will be advertising on facebook, so if you see a post will you please "like" it and share it to your social network. Special thanks to the library ladies who are bringing books related to the topics of Marly Bird's classes to the upcoming meetings.
If you are unable to attend a class, you will enjoy hearing from Marly when she presents at our general membership meeting on October 5th.

We're adding over $600 in new books!!
AKG members may check out up to four books and one CD/DVD per month. All items are due back the following month.
You can look inside many recent books to see if there is a pattern you like by accessing the book on the AKGLibrary's Ravelry page.
- Sign onto your Ravelry account.
- In the 'search' field, type in AKGLibrary and select People. You are searching for a person on Ravelry named: AKGLibrary.
- When that person appears, click on the AKGLibrary,
- Click on the library icon in the top right of the screen
- You can now browse our library.
- If you see a book that interests you, click on it. If the publisher has loaded in the contents of the book, which all have been doing for at least the last seven years, you will be able to see the thumbnail descriptions of each pattern.
- To see the thumbnail descriptions of the patterns in the book, click on the tab in the right hand corner that says: 'X' patterns.
- Scan the patterns. See one you like? Request the book from the library.

General info about the store: Welcome to Atlanta's newest yarn shop, KNIT, Yarn and Fiber Studio, serving the northern part of the Atlanta area! This lovely and brand-new yarn shop is located in Cumming, across from The Collection shops in Forsyth county at the intersection of Peachtree Parkway and Ronald Reagan Parkway. Owner Claudine got the knitting bug several years ago, and with the closing of other shops in the area, Claudine and husband Ross decided that the time was right to open a shop to serve this area of town. You can currently find brands such as Malabrigo, Classic Elite, Plymouth, Lana Grossa and Trendsetters here; coming soon will be Baah Yarn, Berocco and several other major brands that are under consideration, including locally spun yarns. There is a selection of needles from Knitter's Pride with more to follow, but the emphasis is currently on the yarn (although I did spot some gorgeous yarn bowls!)
Ongoing events: Classes are forming and those in the Cumming area that frequented the shop Fleece before they moved out of GA may recognize a few familiar faces -- instructor Susan Ruhnke, who used to teach at Fleece, will be teaching at KNIT. Both Susan and fellow instructor Libby DeMoss have extensive knitting experience, and they will be joined by crochet specialist Kathy Knever in teaching a variety of classes. Please see the Facebook page, "Knit, Yarn and Fiber Studio" to find photos of the store and information on classes - you can also message Claudine through this page as well, or call the store for class information. There is open knitting anytime, and the space is bright and welcoming!

If you are making a special trip to visit KNIT, please call the store to confirm that they are open, as these are current hours but may be slightly flexible as Claudine observes customer traffic patterns.
As KNIT's Facebook page says, "our shop is a warm, friendly, comfortable environment... easy chairs, tables, winders, pattern books, coffee, tea, drinks and a climate of camaraderie that encourages people to gather, work together and support each other." TRAUMA BEARS Have you finished you summer knitting? Before getting started on your fall projects and before digging into those Christmas presents, please give some thought into making sweaters for our Trauma Bear project.
