SUNDAY SCHOOL
PROJECT SUNDAY SCHOOL MEETS FROM 9:45 - 10:45 Sunday mornings
BEGINNING SEPTEMBER 10.
Kids ages 4 - 6th grade are welcome to join us in the upper education wing!
Sunday school at Maple Grove is unlike Sunday school anywhere else.  We will have periods of traditional curriculum with a craft or activity related to a bible story.   And sometimes we will embark on a project-based period where kids will read a bible story or a scripture and then put together a performance for the congregation.  These performances are like mini-musicals with a live band, kids singing songs they've heard on the radio among props they've created and a feeling that kids can tell us best what we need to know about God.   This year's first project will begin right away.  The performance will be in worship on October 29.

T.M.I. (Tween Ministry Incorporated)
T.M.I. is a ministry for kids in grades 4-6.
Together we share God's word,
complete mission activities and have fellowship together.
SAVE THE DATE!
This year we will have our KICK OFF on SEPTEMBER 10 4 - 5:30 PM at the Whetstone Park Lower Playground.  After that we will meet every other Sunday at the same time through November.  Our first Capture the Flag event, our Saturday Night Soiree will be held on Saturday, October 21 at Maple Grove.  Our first project in front of the congregation will be held on October 29!

JOIN US:  SUNDAYS NOVEMBER SUNDAY SCHOOL MEETS FROM 9:45 = 10:

CHILDREN'S WORSHIP is held during the second worship service each Sunday except the first Sunday of the month.  Children begin in the congregation with their parents and head into Children's worship half way through.  There they enjoy their own version of the worship service, with books, videos, music and games that tie in developmentally appropriate and meaningful way.  Kids are picked up in the chapel at the end of worship.

HOLIDAYS AT MAPLE GROVE  Thanksgiving and Christmas are so busy for families. School schedules, chores, to do lists, travel and shopping can sometimes overwhelm us all but there is opportunity at Maple Grove to connect the secular aspects of the season with the meaningful experiences that make Christmas memories. Save the date for these important activities:
Advent Fair and Hanging of the Greens:  Noon November 26 :  Make Christmas crafts for your family, enjoy lunch together and kick off the season. C hristmas Pageant for age 4 - 6th grade:   Rehearsals Sundays  November 26 - December 17 from 4-5:30 p.m.   Performance Christmas Eve 7:00 p.m. service

Youth Sunday School meets from 9:45 to 10:45 in room 125 and also begins on September 10th. We'll be using the same informative and discussion-provoking curriculum we used last year -  52 Great Bible Studies for Youth
Sunday, September 24 is an Important Youth Service & Episcopal Worship Opportunity
This invitation is for the confirmation group & all youth. Our Youth will attend Street Church at St. John's Episcopal church at W. Broad & Central at 1:00 PM and after worship we will serve a lunch that we provide.  Parent help will be needed!
Confirmation for Grades 7 & 8 begins September 17 from 12:15 to 2:15 PM. This year the youth will participate a confirmation program called Confirm not Conform, or CnCConfirm not Conform is focused on helping young people ask tough questions and search out the answers. Through innovative sessions, service, mentor relationships, worship experience, CnC will do a whole lot more than just learn facts, CnC lets youth take real responsibility for understanding their faith and its power. When they do-when they see the church and faith as something that truly belongs to them-it builds a bond that lasts.   At the end of the class, as a sign of their ability to take charge of their own spiritual life, each youth chooses whether or not to be confirmed. All participants, whatever their decision, are honored in a special service dedicated to their work, exploration, and discoveries. Please call Pastor Glenn or Cathy Davis to register or ask questions 614.262.1163.

To receive Youth updates: please contact Cathy Davis and join the Maple Grove UMC Youth group on Facebook.

We will consider how we can be a community challenged and matured by scripture without falling prey to the extremes of Fundamentalism or Skepticism. Led by David Kushner, meeting September 10 through October 15 from 9:45 to 10:45 in Room 8.
The Intersection of Racial & LGBTQ Identity

The Sunday School hour returns on September 10th.  These Sunday morning classes meet from 9:45-10:45 from September through May:

20/30s Young Adults - Come for conversation, coffee and mind-opening exploration of Christian faith for the modern world. Meets in the Youth Room.

Word Among Us - This class reads together one or more of the lectionary texts for the week, looks at the historical context and the life applications for the scriptures.  Meets in the Chapel.

It reaches into the human heart, encouraging the reader to approach painful, inner darkness as a help rather than a hindrance to personal growth. Responding to Hurricane Harvey

Dear Maple Grove members and friends,

Many people are asking the best way to help people affected by Hurricane Harvey.   Click here for latest information from the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR).  We will be organizing the collection of items for "relief kits" at Maple Grove soon.  Meantime the best ways to help are to pray for safety, recovery and wellbeing for everyone affected, and to donate to UMCOR.  You can donate directly through this link or by making contributions through Maple Grove (labeled "Hurricane Harvey").  I appreciate your concern and desire to serve our brothers and sisters in need.

Looking Ahead ... Our Stewardship Campaign begins on October 1st!

What, you may ask, is the purpose of the Stewardship Campaign?
The Stewardship Campaign occurs annually, in October. It is a time when all members are asked to make financial and service commitments to Maple Grove for the coming year, guided by the vows we take of Prayer, Presence, Gifts, Service and Witness.
Your financial pledge is instrumental in the creation of our annual budget, supporting all expenses necessary to live out the ministries at Maple Grove. And your service commitment enables us to staff our numerous ministry teams that serve as Christ's hands and feet in the community.
Watch your mail  later this month   for an   orange envelope containing the Every Member in Ministry booklet and a Commitment Card for your participation in this stewardship campaign.
Each year, we strive for 100% participation from our congregation. No pledge amount is too great or small. Thank you for your faithful and generous giving!
