Thoughts From Pastor Glen

One of the things that I've always loved as a pastor, is standing on the sidelines and watching our warriors do their ministries. Tina Gilson, last weekend stood before the congregation offering everyone the challenge of being a part of God's Work. Our Hands. activities. Each of us has an opportunity to join forces with Our Savior's & Spirit of Joy in helping at the United Food Bank or Sunshine Acres on September 9th & 10th. Tina also challenged us with a mind-set of paying it forward by doing a random act of kindness and including that on an index card that one can share anonymously at the Ice Cream Social on Sunday, September 10th at Our Savior's. If those events don't work for you, how about purchasing socks and food items for the House of Refuge that can be left in the Narthex? This is good stuff, and it makes me proud.

Our TAGGER's got into the spirit of God's Work. Our Hands. by doing a food drive across the street in the Mulberry Subdivision gathering 260 pounds of food for the food bank last Saturday night. These teenagers are watching us, as adults, attempting to change the world. Never forget that we are all walking sermons where our actions speak louder than words.

The excitement is mounting for our 10th Anniversary Building Celebration on October 1st. We will have worship on Saturday evening, but there will be ONE worship service on Sunday morning at 10:15 a.m. on October 1st. The lunch and program will start at appropriately 11:30 a.m. We need NUMBERS for the lunch so please R.S.V.P so that we can make sure that we have plenty of food. This will be a great event for family and friends as we look at the very beginnings of What God Has Done the past 18 years at Spirit of Hope.

The Interim Bishop Lowell Almen will be visiting with our Church Council this Thursday evening, answering any questions concerning the Ministry Site Profile and the Call Committee process. The Church Council has been busy developing a slate of nominees to serve on the Call Committee. They have included people from every service and age group. The nominees are as follows:

The Lift Service
Saturday 5:00 p.m.

Gabby Scott
Duane Gilson
Rich Biesterfeld
The Blended Service
Sunday 8:45 a.m.

Karen Torgersen
Mary Myer
Michael Stark
The Contemporary Service
Sunday 10:15 a.m.

Lara Shaffer
Crystal Zander
Jenna Pintor

Please keep these people in your prayers as God guides them in the selection process of Spirit of Hope's next pastor.

Rusty, our Youth Minister and I will be attending our first Pastoral Conference since our former bishop, Pastor Steve Talmage has been called to be the Senior Pastor at our neighboring congregation Love of Christ Lutheran Church in Mesa. Pastor Talmage will be installed September 17th at 3:00 p.m. We also will have another new pastor at Epiphany Lutheran Church in Apache Junction. The landscape changes with new people and new ideas, but it is the same gracious God who continues to bless us with his Son, a cross and resurrection enabling life forever.

Thank you for the shoeboxes! We have reached our goal. Donna Blad will be unfolding the mystery of these boxes in the coming weeks, so be on the look out for Donna and this important piece of ministry.

Just a reminder if information needs to be included in the Spirit Update, the deadline to email the information to Ginger is by noon the Friday before

Jesus stood before the crowds and stated clearly that the Pharisees (the religious elite) were off track. It wasn't what we put in our mouths that defiled us, but rather what comes out of our mouth. For what comes out of our mouth proceeds from the heart. Our heart has always been the problem. It is where sin captures us. Scrub your heart my friends - scrub the evil, scrub the hate, scrub the hurt. An infected heart can act as a poison stopping us from doing what God has called us to do, simply to love the Lord, our God with all our heart, soul and mind, and our neighbors and ourselves.
Peace & love,
Pastor Glen

God's Work Our Hands Weekend is Coming!
September 9th & 10th, 2017

Please mark your calendars to join us, as Spirit of Hope will again team with Spirit of Joy and Our Savior's to participate in God's Work Our Hands Weekend.
The MOM'S Group is a support group for moms. We are nationally connected to Moms of Preschoolers (MOPS) and MOPS NEXT. We support moms from birth to Jr. High. In our meetings we talk about our group's needs, support one other with spiritual and emotional support, help each other keep sane, and grow our faith. Some of the topics are building faith with our children, keeping the holiday spirit, community service, positive discipline, husband project, spa day, and picnic. We have FREE childcare, so if you have a child and would like to join our group, we will be meeting the second Saturday of the month from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Spirit of Hope beginning in September. Please contact Faith Meyer at 480-320-8615 with any questions.
