The Salt & Soil Marketplace is open for orders in Juneau!
Dear Juneau Members,

We are rounding into the mid season of the pilot year of the Salt & Soil Marketplace. Thank you for your patience during this first year of the market. As you have likely experienced, items sell out quickly and frequently. This is a great sign of support for local food.

Please remember that it takes time to plan for larger gardens and more production. By supporting the Salt & Soil Marketplace and our vendors, we can help producers expand to meet the market demand. With your continued support, we  ensure that more variety and quanity of local foods will be available in the future.

Vendor of the Week: Wildwood Cottage

Wildwood Cottage is in the process of building a family-run hobby farm that can share their locally grown bounty with Juneau and surrounding areas!

Currently, their main offering is farm fresh duck eggs. Their little flock of Khaki Campbell ducks are carefully tended by Farmer Boy 'Nate', and fed a diet of fermented organic feed and household scraps, the ladies also graze their property in  portable pens. These practices lead large eggs with huge, nutrient dense yolks that are often better tolerated by people with sensitivities or allergies to chicken eggs. The extra fat in duck eggs also makes for better baked goods and are often the eggs of choice for commercial and gourmet bakers!

Nate’s twin sister, Lilli, has a passion for foraging and utilizing native plants and berries. She enjoys being able to share pesticide free treasures with the Salt & Soil community. With plans for an extensive network of raised beds and hoop houses to be established in 2018, she and her 2 younger siblings look forward to cultivating a variety of other herbs and veggies for Southeast kitchens.

This week, look for Wildwood Cottage duck eggs, ginger mint plants, mint, raspberry leaves, and comfrey!
Have a great weekend!
