Dear Sweeny Families,
On behalf of Team Sweeny, we are pleased to welcome you to the 2017-2018 school year! Soon you and your child will be walking the halls of Sweeny Elementary! While this is a very exciting time, it is also a time riddled with questions and perhaps, some apprehension, concerning various aspects of another school year. Although it is impossible to answer all of your questions in this newsletter, the following information will give a brief overview of Sweeny Elementary.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at school. We look forward to working with you and your children. Enjoy the remainder of your summer!

Leader in Me
|
|
Sweeny Elementary is proud to be a Leader in Me school. What is Leader in Me? The Leader in Me is a whole-school model and process-developed in partnership with educators that empowers students with the leadership and life skills they need to be successful in the 21st century. It is based on principles and practices of personal, interpersonal, and organizational effectiveness. The Leader in Me starts from a powerful premise that every child possesses unique strengths and has the ability to be a leader. Leadership is woven into existing programs, curriculum and traditions and serves as an operating system for the school. It improves relationships, transforms the school culture, and creates highly motivated staff and students. All stakeholders are impacted by The Leader in Me, starting with the staff of a school then expanding to students, their families, and the community at large. This Inside-Out Approach is a key ingredient to successfully creating positive change in a school. Throughout the school year we'll share more about Leader in Me and all the ways each child at Sweeny is a leader!

School End Time:
3:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday
2:30 p.m. on Fridays only for early release (see below for details)

Students will proceed directly to their classrooms unless they need to eat breakfast. If eating breakfast, they will eat in the cafeteria first.
Dismissal Procedures:
Bus riders will be directed to the bus lanes at the front of the school. Students who are car riders will sit on the back porches until called from the car line which will be at the back of the school.
You must have a car line sign to pick your child up.
You can pick up your car line sign at Open House. A map and important facts to remember regarding our car line can be found on our website under the resources tab located HERE. In order for our car line to run effectively and efficiently, please do not line up prior to 3:15 p.m. and 2:15 p.m of Fridays, due to the traffic congestion that it causes. Also, keep in mind that we typically have our car line complete within 10 minutes of dismissal.

Our goal is to ensure that you feel a part of your child's education and are aware of the events occurring here at Sweeny Elementary.

Visitors to the Building
|
|
It is vital that anyone entering the building sign in at the office and obtain a visitors badge. If you have items that your child has forgotten (lunch box, snacks, supplies), please leave them in the office with Mrs. Kristi or Mrs. Leah and we will get them to your child during the school day. Unless prearranged with the teacher, visitors will not be permitted into the classrooms during the school day. Again, it is our goal to protect every minute of learning that is available to us during the school day.

|
|
Please read the Student Handbook found HERE. After you have read it, parents and students will be asked to complete the Procedure/Policy Acknowledgement Page indicating you and your child understand/comply with the policies/procedures in the handbook. This page will be signed at Open House.
