At the Hillsborough Education Foundation, 2016-17 was one for the books.

Together, with the help of our generous donors and volunteers, we provided $2.6 million in free school supplies to classrooms in 140 Title I schools across the county.  Nearly 3,000 teachers made 10,390 visits to the Teaching Tools Store, with the average shopping trip valued at almost  $200. And our volunteers logged more than 5,700 hours helping to keep the store stocked and running smoothly.

In addition to providing free school supplies to children in need, the Foundation also made the college dream a reality for more than 300 Hillsborough County Public School students, with scholarships. Many of these students come from low-income families, and may be first-generation college students.

Also in 2016-17, we honored the school district's top educators by hosting the Excellence in Education Awards, and granted more than $80,000 to teachers so they could provide their students with innovative classroom experiences.

None of this would have been possible without the support of the businesses and individuals who donated time, talent and treasure to our mission of helping our students succeed in school and beyond.

The Foundation is still collecting supplies for our annual School Supply Drive.
We are so thankful for all of the generous supply donations made to the Teaching Tools Store so far.

This week, Ciccio's Restaurant Group is partnering with us to host one-day drives at each of its restaurants. Anyone who donates supplies at one of these locations will receive a free food or drink item:

- Monday, July 31: (free Southwest Chicken Quesadilla, beer or wine)
- Tuesday, Aug. 1: Daily Eats  (free Small Tater Hater, beer or wine)
- Wednesday, Aug. 2:  (free Small Edamame Appetizer, beer or wine)
- Thursday, Aug. 3:  (free Corndogs App, beer or wine)
- Friday, Aug. 4:  (free 4 Bowl, not including add-ons or premium proteins)

Thank you to our wonderful volunteers!
While the Teaching Tools Store is closed for much of the summer, we still rely on our volunteers - both individuals and groups - to complete projects so we can get the shelves fully stocked for the new school year. Here are some of the fantastic groups that volunteered with us this summer:

Volunteer group from Xcenda.
Volunteer group from Banana Republic.

Volunteer group from PrimeGroup Insurance Services, Inc.

Volunteer group from Grow Financial.

Thank you for everything you do to change kids' lives!

Celebrating achievements in Hillsborough schools
The Hillsborough Education Foundation strives to help each and every Hillsborough County Public School student reach academic and personal success.
That's why we are always excited to  hear about achievements in Hillsborough schools.

Here are some recent reasons for celebration:

IB Diploma Rates
Students who graduate from the district's four IB programs  rank higher than their peers across the world, with diploma rates at those schools ranging from 92 percent to 100 percent.
That compares to the U.S. pass rate of 66.69 percent and the global pass rate of 78.4 percent, according to recently released diploma rates for rigorous International Baccalaureate programs around the globe.
Here's a look at the 2016-17 HCPS diploma rates:
- Hillsborough High: 97%
- King High: 92%
- Robinson High: 95%
- Strawberry Crest High: 96%

School Grades
Last school year, district students made some notable improvements on state tests, according to 2017 school grades released by the Florida Department of Education in June.
The results show that 10 more traditional schools than the previous year earned A's, bringing the total of A schools to 51. Additionally, 15 traditional schools improved a letter grade to earn C's. And only three schools earned F's, down from seven the previous year.

Success at Just Elementary
Just Elementary School, considered a district "turnaround" school by the state, improved its school grade from a D to a B.
Students at Just saw tremendous gains in their English Language Arts, math and science test scores.
Other district turnaround schools are celebrating higher grades as well - Jennings and Van Buren middles and Lockhart Magnet and Reddick elementaries improved from a D to a C.

We are looking forward to celebrating many more successes with HCPS in
2017-18.

Take Stock students receive free school supplies
On July 22, nearly 200 students in the Foundation's Take Stock in Children scholarship and mentoring program got a chance to pick up some free school supplies.

Wishing everyone a happy school year!
