Dear Emma Willard School Community,
Emma Willard School has committed to transparency in our process and communications with our community around the prevention of sexual abuse, and to accountability and culture change within our school. The Board of Trustees, school administrators, and I have pledged to update our community regularly about the initiatives that we have undertaken to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our campus.
We have received new information regarding past sexual abuse at the school and, as per established protocol, contacted child protection experts at Cozen O'Connor who investigated, reported the information to the Troy Police Department and made an update to the report they released in April. The new addendum can be found here.
Throughout this entire process, child protection experts at Cozen O'Connor have worked diligently to protect the anonymity of anyone who was harmed or witnessed harm. We ask that our community respect the privacy of the brave survivors and friends who came forward to bring awareness to any misconduct that took place in our history.
Emma Willard School will continue to investigate any and all cases of abuse brought forward by any member of our community. All previous reports of sexual abuse or misconduct at the School have already been reported to the Troy Police Department, and any new information brought forward will also be reported. The Cozen O'Connor report will also be amended as needed, and as we have stated previously we encourage anyone with additional information to report it as per our reporting protocol. This work is ongoing.
