WTS GNY Membership  Appreciation Cruise:

After the threat of bad weather, skies were clear on the evening of Monday, July 24th, as 110 members boarded a Hornblower cruise ship at Pier 40 for the WTS GNY membership appreciation event.  It was a wonderful evening filled with laughter, mingling, catching up with friends and colleagues, not to mention eating, dancing, all while admiring the sites of NYC and the sunset from the river.

WTS GNY - NJ Programs Summer Kick-off Event - July 6, 2017 at Rats Restaurant in Hamilton

WTS-GNY NJ Programs successfully hosted their annual Summer Kickoff Event at Rats restaurant in Hamilton, New Jersey on July 6.  As always, this event was a hit with both current and prospective members of WTS-GNY.  Attendees had the o pportunity to network with their fellow transportation professionals, learn about WTS, and enjoy good food in a beautiful, intimate setting.  The 15 attendees started off with a BINGO icebreaker.  Participants received a bingo card with questions in each box which players were to ask each other to find someone who could answer "yes."  Some questions related to interesting or unique life events, while others were geared toward WTS-specific experiences.  Players were limited to using each person only once on their bingo card, which increased the chances for mingling. The first two individuals who completed a row of "yes" answers each received a prize.

Volunteers included:  Meghan Myers, Tam Sillick, Janet Keiser, Patty Egan, Aimee Jefferson

Transportation You Committee:
The NJ Chapter of the Committee is looking for new mentors and committee members for 2017-2018. Our mentoring program inspires young women (14-18) to pursue careers in STEM and Transportation. Transportation YOU is a hands-on, interactive, mentoring program that offers girls an introduction to a wide variety of transportation careers. WTS members work to make a difference in the lives of high school girls in Newark, NJ, by offering site tours, professional development and group activities that will spark their interest in all modes of transportation. We also seek to encourage them to take courses in math, science, and technology, which are the stepping stones to exciting careers that can change the face of the transportation industry.
To find out how you can get involved, please contact
Sutapa Bandyopadhyay at  sband@njtpa.org
Request from Yvonne Lopez-Diaz, Chair of the Glass Ceiling Committee:

The Glass Ceiling Committee is pursuing research and development of a study to benchmark transportation industry women's leadership roles in the New York metropolitan area. The study also will identify whether the glass ceiling is a barrier to their growth and success.  The results of this study will identify potential policies and/or programs to support the recruitment, retention, and advancement of women in the field.  Part of the committee's work involves surveying companies, both public and private.

Your help in promoting the survey is very much needed and appreciated. For the survey to get to the right HR professional, we need your help in identifying the HR representative at your place of employment. Please forward his/her contact information (email, phone, and address) to the address below.

For any additional questions or to express your interest in being part of this ground-breaking effort, you also can contact me at the email below.
