Concern Bergen Opens in Brooklyn
On June 30th, a beautiful Friday before the Fourth of July holiday weekend, Concern for Independent Living celebrated the opening of a new residence in the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn. The newly constructed 90-unit residence stands on what was formerly a blighted lot.  Read more.
La Central Breaks Ground in the Bronx
On July 24, Breaking Ground hosted state, city, and local government luminaries to break ground on the first building of what will eventually be a five-building, 1.1 million square foot development in the South Bronx with 992 units of mixed-income housing, a new 50,000 square foot YMCA, a television studio and a skate park!  Read more.

Federal Budget Update
Within the past month, the House appropriations committee proposed flat-funding Department of Housing and Urban Development (“HUD”) programs for Fiscal Year 2018, while the Senate committee modestly increased HUD funding levels. Read more.

Jocelyn Carter has been appointed as Administrator of the Department of Homeless Services (DHS). Carter has worked at DHS for 13 years, with increasing responsibilities within the Division of Family Services. She was most recently the Associate Commissioner of Family Intake with DHS prior to her current appointment.

Lydon Sleeper joined the NYC Department of Housing Preservation & Development (HPD) as the Chief of Staff to Commissioner Torres-Springer. He comes to HPD from the New York City Economic Development Corporation, where he was Senior Vice President of Government and Community Relations.

Nicole Ferreira joined NYS Homes and Community Renewal to lead the Multifamily Finance team. She was previously the Executive Vice President, Department for Development, at NYC Housing Authority.
