This week's survey

(These survey questions are sent in by our readers. Please spend a minute to give your answer to this week's survey as one or possibly more of your industry peers thinks this question is important and wishes to see your point of view as well as others in the industry.)

Last week's survey results on the question of......
Did the sales rep that visited you almost daily when you expressed interest in buying a new machine visit you after the machine was installed and running?

  • Some reps look for the big ticket items. But I can't understand why they don't realise (ATTENTION ALL REPS) the materials, ink and consumables used in that print machine may be well over 20 times more valuable (with higher profit margins). The phone companies have figured that out a long time ago: GIVE you the phone, lock you to the network and watch you use it. Data and calls is where the money is at not phone sales.
  • Yes. Neopost and PT Store have both been excellent with maintaining a relationship after selling us our machines.
  • .I wonder if the person who submitted this question employs salespeople, if he does, then I am sure his own sales people are guilty of this as well as the suppliers.
It makes sense that whilst an order is being processed, the salesman will keep in regular contact to make sure the order and installation is on track. But after the installation contact would revert back to normal.
  • Yes unfortunate they don't give a ... anymore once they have your business, but lately we hardly see a rep at all. Its a disappearing job, due to the online ordering systems and information you can get 24/7 these days.
  • Yes, he did and many times as well. Well done Conect and Celmac - great job from both these suppliers. Business is often built on relationships, so it pays to generate a good relationship.
  • Most supplier reps do a good job and if they don't, they don't last long in this highly competitive business.

I Nearly Became A Doctor

When I was young I decided I wanted to be a doctor, so I took the entrance exam to go to Medical School.
One of the questions asked was to rearrange the letters *PNEIS* into the name of an important human body part which is most useful when erect.
Those who answered spine are doctors today. The rest of us are just  adding jokes to newsletters.
