Mobil Country Club Becomes Emergency Ready

A group of residents at the Mobil Country Club, a senior mobile home park in Rancho Cordova, wanted to be prepared in case of an emergency. The City of Rancho Cordova awarded the homeowners association a grant from the Community Enhancement Fund, and now they're equipped with an Emergency Evacuation Plan and golf carts to move residents to safety.  


College Readiness Program 

Incoming and newly graduated high school seniors who live in Rancho Cordova still have time to enroll in the free College Preparedness Summer Program offered by the Sacramento City Unified School District. The next program will run from August 21st - 25th.



Reminder to "Pool Safely"

As more residents head to local or household swimming pools to escape the summer heat, safety experts are reminding individuals to adopt simple safety steps to prevent drownings. 

Now Available: Water-Wise Landscaping Tips and Grant Funding 

Residents interested in reducing their outdoor water usage and beautifying their front yard landscapes can find helpful tips and examples on the City's new Water-Wise Landscaping webpage. The City is also offering a $500 matching grant incentive to help residents transform their front yards through the Water-Wise Landscape Grant Incentive Pilot Program.

Your City Public Works team is busy improving our City with these new projects:

2016 Street Rehabilitation Project 
In July, the City completed the 2016 Street Rehabilitation Project. The project increases pedestrian accessibility, improves driver comfort and safety, and upgrades storm drains in the White Rock/Cordova Towne neighborhood of Rancho Cordova.

Folsom Boulevard Fence Replacement
In June, muralist Warren Dayton invited residents, City staff, and City Council members to help him paint his mural in City Hall's lobby. The mural was installed on Sacramento Regional Transit's wall near the intersection of Folsom Boulevard and Coloma Road. 

Sunrise Boulevard Landscape Media Improvements Project
In July, the City in partnership with Sacramento County installed new landscaping in a median on Sunrise Boulevard, north of Gold Country Boulevard. The project beautifies a stretch of Sunrise Boulevard.
 
Tree Planting Goal Reached 
The City set a goal of planting one tree a day during the Fiscal Year 2016/2017, and we met our goal! The City planted 367 trees throughout the community in neighborhoods, parks and commercial areas.  Learn more about the City's free tree program .

Rancho Cordova Trail Named Project of the Year 

The Anatolia and Kavala Ranch Bike and Pedestrian Trail is a beautiful amenity that connects the two communities of Anatolia and Kavala Ranch together as well as to the natural environment, and it encourages active modes of transportation. And, now we have the recognition to prove it! 

The American Public Works Association Sacramento Chapter recently named the trail a 2017 Project of the Year Award for the outstanding work by our Public Works Department to design and complete the project. 


Class of 2017 High School Graduates Head to College

The 2017 graduating classes of George Washington Carver School of Arts and Science and Cordova High School are about to begin a new chapter in their lives -- college! This fall, over 100 students will benefit from a year of free tuition to Folsom Lake College through the Promise Program, while others head to colleges located across the state and nation

Classes Begin at Robert J. McGarvey Elementary 

Robert J. McGarvey Elementary School opened its doors to its first students on July 13th. The school's namesake, Council Member Bob McGarvey and wife Terri, a retired Elk Grove Unified School District teacher, greeted students and toured the brand new campus on the first day of school. 


Rancho Cordova Celebrates National Night Out

Each year, the Rancho Cordova Police Department participates in National Night Out, an annual campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie.This year's event took place on Tuesday, August 1st, and RCPD officers and City staff had a great time visiting residents at 15 neighborhood events happening throughout the City. 



Save Your Water and Your Trees!

If you are wondering how to keep your trees happy and how often you should water them during hot summer months, you are not alone! The Sacramento Tree Foundation is offering free educational workshops on water-wise tree care, including one at the Rancho Cordova Library on August 12th.

Code Enforcement Team Reduces Fire Threats

The City's Code Enforcement team has been proactively working to ensure weeds  are removed from Rancho Cordova properties to reduce fire risks.  All 140 properties that they identified for weed abatement were improved to reduce fire risk! The City's Code Enforcement team is continuing to monitor properties during the fire season.


Rancho Cordova Provides Free Spay and Neuter Services 

We are in the middle of kitten season, and the City's Animal Services team and local animal rescue organizations have been busy rescuing an influx of abandoned and homeless kittens. Residents can help reduce the number of homeless cats and dogs with free spay and neuter vouchers through Whisker Warriors or the City. Obtain yours by contacting the City at (916) 851-8852.
