Goal reached, she joins revived Gordmans
Gordmans Assistant Manager Joe McChesney said fitting rooms supported by Lindy Buller are busy.

"How many?" asks Lindy Buller, a key employee who tracks clothing in the fitting rooms at the revived Gordman's store in Burnsville Center.

"This is something that I knew I wanted to do, and I knew what I needed to do to get ther e," said Buller.  She got the job with help from ProAct a few weeks before her seventh anniversary with the nonprofit.

The main task for the recent employee placed by ProAct is to track the clothing articles coming in and out of the rooms where people check for a proper fit.

'Not That Special' playing Aug. 25
A new ProAct Playhouse production brings some engaging humor to the audience at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, August 25 at Lakeville Arts Center.  "Not that Special"
is centered around a man who gets rejected by an acting school and goes on to direct his own version of "Romeo and Juliet."

Written by people with disabilities, the play has scenes that tackle real issues involving employment, at times turning stereotypes on their heads.  Suggested donation is $10.

Special thanks to Diane and Richard Radman, who provided flash drives for participants at ProAct who are seeking jobs.

"Our supporters have really enjoyed this venue, the food is excellent and people with disabilities truly need our support," said Steven Ditschler, president and CEO of ProAct.

The cost is $150 per golfer and includes lunch and a gourmet dinner. Signing up is easy and several sponsorship options also cover tournament fees for players.

Participant speaks to community groups about mental illness

Designated Coordinator Emily Driessen, left, with Shelly Burns, who speaks in the community for NAMI.
When Shelley Burns was 15, she returned home from a canoe trip and had a nervous breakdown.

After time in the hospital, she was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder and, over the past 20 years, she has gained a better understanding of her medical condition. Schizoaffective is a combination of schizophrenia and bi-polar disorders.

For three years, Burns has been active in In Our Own Voice, a program of the National Association of Mental Illness (NAMI) that trains speakers who have been living with mental illness, and helps them to find recovery.
