This week's survey

(These survey questions are sent in by our readers. Please spend a minute to give your answer to this week's survey as one or possibly more of your industry peers thinks this question is important and wishes to see your point of view as well as others in the industry.)

Last week's survey results...

  • Absolutely, we have a server with RAID redundancy, an onsite backup drive, and nightly automatic offsite backups to a second server. (Neil, Signs On Time)
  • We have a hot-swap hard drives which are changed out monthly and taken off-site, plus we have backup of our server operating system and all recent data (anything less than 8 years old) kept in the cloud. This can be run as a virtual server in case our one craps itself.
After going through recent earthquakes we learnt that our company relies heavily on its data and IP, and that backups are EVERYTHING.
How much time would you spend if you had to recreate every logo you have done, or if when a client came back for changes / additions to signage, you had to go out and re-measure the building / check colours. (Nick, Horton Signs)
  • Of course
  • We use two external hard drives. While one is on site doing the backup the second is taken of site every night then swapped over each morning. Should we have a crash or our server is hacked at worse we only lose one days information.
  • Everything we do goes to our server as well as to the Cloud.
  • yes after being burned twice with losing all our jobs we have an online server backup
  • Yes. All of our files, artwork and accounting information is saved on a dedicated Drive. We back up every day and take a backup drive of site. (Emilio, Kwik Kopy)
  • Our system crashed just a month ago and thank God we had back ups. Anybody in this business who doesn't have back ups is mad.

Smile: It's only Monday!
(If you have a good joke or funny video for this section, please send to  - Thanks)

The light turned yellow, just in front of him. He did the right thing and stopped at the crosswalk, even though he could have beaten the red light by accelerating through the intersection.
The tailgating woman behind him was furious and honked her horn, screaming in frustration, as she missed her chance to get through the intersection.
As she was still in mid-rant, she heard a tap on her window and looked up into the face of a very serious police officer.
The officer ordered her to exit her car with her hands up. He took her to the police station where she was searched, fingerprinted, photographed and placed in a holding cell.
After a couple of hours, a policeman approached the cell and opened the door.
She was escorted back to the booking desk where the arresting officer was waiting with her personal effects.
He said, "I'm very sorry for this mistake. You see, I pulled up behind your car while you were blowing your horn, giving the guy in front of you the finger and cursing at him.
I noticed the 'What Would Jesus Do' bumper sticker, the 'Choose Life' licence plate holder, the 'Follow Me to Sunday-School' bumper sticker, and the chrome-plated Christian fish emblem on the trunk, so naturally I assumed you had stolen the car."
