Upper Kirby Construction
Westheimer Work Starts Today Between Kirby and Eastside
Westheimer Reconstruction:
Kirby to Buffalo Speedway
New Pavement at the River Oaks/Westheimer Intersection

Construction continued this week on Westheimer between Kirby and Buffalo Speedway. Last week, crews shifted work between the west side of River Oaks Boulevard and Eastside Street to the south side of Westheimer. Later today,  the contractor will also setup traffic control on the south side of the street between Kirby and Eastside.

The City has approved work in multiple locations, so the contractor is taking advantage and will be pouring from St. John's toward Eastside at the same time as he is prepping for concrete between Eastside and Kirby. There is no significant underground work in this section, only pavement replacement and storm inlets and leads.

Next week will be focused on removing the existing pavement between Eastside and Kirby. Crews will then start surface preparation and forming, followed by pavement placement. Including cure time, this will be a 6-8 week process depending on weather. Once the lanes are open, crews will come back for back of curb improvements.

Eastbound motorists should expect to narrow down to one lane just east of the Buffalo Speedway intersection and continue in that configuration through Kirby.

Bissonnet Reconstruction:
Kirby to Buffalo Speedway

Work on Bissonnet between Kirby and Buffalo Speedway was stopped late last year due to a contractor dispute. Work began between the Kirby intersection and Dincans on the north side of the street. Upper Kirby retained a second contractor to complete work on this area. This contractor completed this work just prior to the holidays.

The project was bid earlier this summer and the bid has been awarded to Reytec Construction Resources. Construction will begin on the remainder of the roadway August 21. Construction will begin moving west from Dincans on the north side of the roadway with storm sewer installation and new pavement. Existing medians will be preserved and traffic control will utilize existing median openings to shift traffic around the construction zone. Look for further updates as sequencing plans are finalized.
