C.A.R.I.T.A.S. IS COMING SOON; HELP IS REQUESTED

As you may know, our C.A.R.I.T.A.S. guests are coming to stay at St. Matthews from 9/16 to 9/23.  We have over 50 volunteer spots to fill.
We can use your help in the following ways:
  • Stay overnight and mingle with our guests and set up breakfast the next morning
  • Drive our guests so they can take a shower or do laundry
  • Help with set-up or takedown in Matt's Place
  • Take an item or one more item from the donation tree in the Parish Hall
Sign-up sheets for all volunteer needs will be in the Parish Hall following the 10:30 a.m. services from now until the shelter week starts.  Please prayerfully consider how you and/or your friends/acquaintances can help with this important mission.

Contact Shawn Garitz at  [email protected] or 804-774-8750 or any C.A.R.I.T.A.S. committee member with questions.  God bless.

HOSPITALITY needs team members! We serve coffee/lemonade after the 10:30 a.m. service from September through June. The Hospitality group is divided into teams and each member of a team serves once during the Fall/Winter, once in Winter/Spring, and one of the Lenten suppers. July and August are time off from our team work as those months are served by others within the church. If you are looking for opportunities to serve our church and would like to help with Hospitality, we would love for you to join us! Please call the church office 804-288-1911 or Anne Simpson 804-288-9200.

Psalm 17:1-7, 15  (NRSV)
A Prayer of David

Hear a just cause, O Lord; attend to my cry;
    give ear to my prayer from lips free of deceit.
From you let my vindication come;
    let your eyes see the right.
If you try my heart, if you visit me by night,
    if you test me, you will find no wickedness in me;
    my mouth does not transgress.
As for what others do, by the word of your lips
    I have avoided the ways of the violent.
My steps have held fast to your paths;
    my feet have not slipped.
I call upon you, for you will answer me, O God;
    incline your ear to me, hear my words.
Wondrously show your steadfast love,
    O savior of those who seek refuge
    from their adversaries at your right hand.

15 As for me, I shall behold your face in righteousness;
    when I awake I shall be satisfied, beholding your likeness.
