Dear
,
In our 25 years of advocacy, service and development, Arts Wisconsin has shared stories about the impact, benefit and power of
the arts, arts education, creative economy and creative placemaking in every corner of Wisconsin.
In these "interesting" times, it's really important to make sure those stories are heard. Here are two good ways to tell your story:
- Nominate a civic champion for Arts Wisconsin's Arts in the Community Award. These awards, now in their ninth year, are a great way to tell the story of civic leaders and elected officials who are championing the arts on the local level, in communities of all sizes. The awards are presented by Arts Wisconsin and our outstanding partner, the League of Wisconsin Municipalities, and generously sponsored by Wisconsin companies Heid Music, Vierbicher Associates and Redevelopment Resources.
- If you make the arts happen in a small town or rural community, plan to attend a Small Community Forum near you in August or September. These Forums - happening in Cambridge, Cumberland, Gays Mills, and Wabeno - are all about networking, learning, and sharing stories - and the arts are integral to transformation and vitality.
In other news, we're thrilled to announce three new members for Arts Wisconsin's Board of Directors - Angela Allen of Milwaukee, Beth Dary of Kenosha, and Emily Goretski of Madison. These outstanding creative advocates bring special skills, talent, and energy to our governing board. Learn more about Angie, Beth and Emily here. And we thank our retiring board members - Daniel Goscha of Madison, Kate Rericha of Sturgeon Bay, and Taeli Turner of Madison - for their years of service and support!
.
Thank YOU for your good work and keep in touch -
Anne Katz, Executive Director

What's happening with Wisconsin Creates?
It's been a while since we've updated our constituents about advocacy efforts to establish Wisconsin Creates, a new program to invest in Wisconsin's creative resources.
Wisconsin Creates has recently been introduced in the Legislature as 2017 Senate Bill 284 and Assembly Bill 393. Please be assured that the Senate and Assembly bills are still in play, waiting for the Legislature's deliberations about the 2017-2019 budget to be completed. Once the budget is finalized and signed into law by Gov. Walker (a process which was supposed to be completed by June 30), there will be legislative committee hearings and promotion statewide on the importance of this program. So stay tuned!
As a reminder -
Sen. Sheila Harsdorf (R-River Falls) and Rep. Warren Petryk (R-Eleva) are the lead sponsors on this bill to establish this 21st century development program. Wisconsin Creates will support:
- Economic and community development - developing jobs, businesses, and experiences in the creative sector
- Arts and creativity in education - helping our kids succeed in the 21st century world and workforce
- Infrastructure and capacity building - strengthening arts and creative for-profit and non-profit businesses and organizations' outreach, engagement and education programs.
When this program is established, it will be the first increase to arts funding in Wisconsin in over 20 years and will mean the possibility of more funding for arts and cultural programs and initiatives throughout the state.
Wisconsin Creates will be administered by the Wisconsin Arts Board. , relating to: creative economy development initiative grants and making an appropriation.
