MDH Seeking Comments on Communicable Diseases Reporting Rules
The Minnesota Department of Health is considering modifications to the Communicable Disease Reporting Rules through the Minnesota rulemaking process. This rulemaking process will bring the requirements that govern clinical materials up to date to respond better to the current environment and will eliminate unnecessary submissions. Read more here.
Medical Students Celebrate Successful Advocacy Campaign
On Aug. 26, the Hands on Advocacy Project held its "Transition Day," an opportunity for the medical students in the 2016-2017 campaign to come together with the new group of students that will be part of the 2017-2018 campaign. Read more here.
Sept. 13 Webinar Will Examine Security Risk Analysis Process Under HIPAA
AMA will host a one-hour webinar on Sept. 13 at noon CDT on the security risk analysis process under HIPAA and how to scope a quality improvement project to achieve success. Click here to register. Both HIPAA and the Advancing Care Information component of the Quality Payment Program under MACRA require physicians to protect their patient information by conducting a security risk analysis.  
Physicians Helping Physicians: Hurricane Harvey
The Texas Medical Association (TMA) has created a comprehensive webpage on Hurricane Harvey. Of special note is information regarding Gov. Greg Abbott's decision to temporarily suspend all necessary statutes and rules to allow health care providers employed by a hospital and licensed and in good standing in another state to practice in Texas to help with Harvey disaster response. An MMA committee has been formed and an executive search firm hired as the search for the next MMA CEO begins the promotional phase. Background information on qualifications for the position are now available online. The MMA will also be advertising the position nationally.
