As summer gives way to fall, I wanted to give you an update on some of the many things happening around the district. Scroll down this newsletter to take a look.
Sen. Steans and I will be hosting a school funding town hall next week; the details are below. As you may know, the General Assembly just overhauled education funding in the state of Illinois. Come out to learn what this means for you and your children.
School Funding Town Hall
We are co-hosting a town hall on Sept. 7 to discuss how the budget and recent school funding reform will affect Chicago Public Schools. The event will run from 6-7:30 p.m. at Senn High School, 5900 N. Glenwood Ave. The town hall will include a presentation followed by time for questions.

Edgewater Village Update
Check out all the upcoming Village events:
from poetry to painting
from cyber security to winter lights --
we have it all!
Especially note our first No Book Club (in partnership with Friends of the Edgewater Library and Edgewater Reads) on Monday, August 28, 2 p.m. at the Edgewater Library, 6000 N. Broadway, 2nd floor community room.
Participants can briefly talk about the book they're currently reading, one they recently read or one they may have read not so recently. The book can be fiction or non-fiction. Any genre, any subject. It's a chance to hear not only snippets about books and what others suggest, but we'll share the recommendations with the community on the library's bulletin board. The Club will meet on the fourth Monday of each month. Free. No frills. Just book talk. A flyer is attached.
Also please note the September and October events for which reservations are required:
Storytelling Circle -- Sept. 7 and Oct. 5
Death Cafe (details to follow) -- Sept. 20
Computer Basics -- 4 sessions beginning Oct. 9
Getting into Poetry - 6 sessions beginning Oct. 17
