ALL BCNE CHURCH ALERT #2
Texas Hurricane Harvey Floods (Irma impending)

Pictures do tell a story. Most of us can be readily shocked at the power and scope of Hurricane Harvey. The emotional response can be seen in this survivor's face. Many homes and areas are still under water. Mountains of debris are appearing in people's front yards- easily the majority of the home's contents destroyed. 300,000 homes are affected. We at Disaster Relief New England are
planning to respond. In view of now approaching Hurricane Irma towards Florida, we are in a mode of needing NOW to assess volunteers that desire to serve. The location may be unknown at this time, but be assured we will be going.
There are 2 Pathways to going:

PATHWAY #1: AS A SPONTANEOUS UNTRAINED VOLUNTEER
There will be avenues to serve if persons have never been trained. Our national partner, Send Relief is handling the fielding of untrained volunteers. They are in need of experienced construction leaders. If you have knowledge of home remodeling, mold remediation and/or construction project management, they need your time and skills! Hurricane Harvey has drowned more than 300,000 homes in 21 trillion gallons of rainfall that fell on Texas and Louisiana over 9 days. There is still approximately 50 inches of standing water rotting homes, blocking roads and cutting power. Help is needed on every level. If you or someone you know is experienced in construction, please consider signing up to lead a team and help our neighbors in Houston?

You may sign up or find more information by this button, but if you pursue this pathway, we ask that you let our office know. We may be able to provide monetary subsidy, travel coordination and insurance.

PATHWAY #2: AS A DISASTER RELIEF TRAINED VOLUNTEER
It should go without saying that these events are unprecedented and are requiring a all-hands-on-deck type of response by trained volunteers.  Trained volunteers are needed now and for the next 3 months. If you have been trained in Disaster Relief in the past, we desire you to sign up through DR New England. We are willing to have volunteers sign up that have not been trained in years. We intend to provide refresher training events around New England. Initially we need their response as to whether they can can go for 10 to 14 days any time from
Sept. 28 to Nov. 17.

LET US KNOW YOUR AVAILABILITY
Simply go to the button to the right and complete the sign up form.
Those who are trained, see the list below disciplines needed. You may need refresher training (see training info below).
This will be a long recovery, there will be plenty to do, look at how you can respond and when, and let us know by signing up at the button. For other questions or information, contact any of the following:

TRAVEL
We are exploring means of travel to get you to service sites. Once on location, you will not incur financial needs. We are working to keep the costs low by providing a subsidy. Approximate costs without a subsidy for vehicle travel round trip with a crew are between $210 (by staying overnight in churches) to $380 with hotel stays. Airfare round trip without subsidy is a bit easier time wise with round trips out of Boston ranging from $126 to $255 per person. Ground transport to work sites from the airport would be an additional amount. Disaster Relief New England, so far, will be able to to provide a $60 subsidy and we are working to increase that soon. As soon as we've more information, we will communicate it.

TRAINING NEEDS
If your training has lapsed and you are no longer certified, we will be providing training in various locations and times, particularly in the next month. We will notify you of these training events and locations as soon as they are set up. If you know others in your church that would like to go and assist with recovery efforts and have never been trained, please forward them these emails so that they can be trained.

MONETARY DONATIONS
While our first response is to want to send goods, they many times cannot be used. The greatest need right now is to assist responding organizations, especially ours, with financial help.
There are three ways to give:

Disaster Relief New England as they provide survivors with assistance and deploy teams who will be getting ready to respond. Travel costs are particularly significant b
