But he turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; for you are setting your mind not on divine things but on human things.”
Start-Up Sunday and Ministry Fair - September 10th
Mark your calendars for the annual Ministry Fair on Start-Up Sunday on September 10th. Different groups and ministries and their coordinators will be present to answer questions and help you learn about how to get involved.
Sign-up in Realm to Make New St. Barnabas Connections!
Realm is a system which allows church members to see and join groups and ministries, upload your photo(s) for the directory, search for other members, see giving history and even pledge online. Only church members have access to this secure website, via login and password.
On Saturday, September 9, 9:00 am to 10:30 am there will be an orientation meeting in the second floor chapel for those who are interested in joining a new series from the widely-used Living the Questions program. The series that includes video presentations, group discussion, spiritual autobiographies and theological reflection will meet weekly, with regular breaks, and assumes a commitment to regular attendance. See the brochure in Lukens Wing or contact Elizabeth Hepp or Jana Everett for more information.
Did you know...
Vestry meeting minutes are available on the long table at the west end of Lukens Wing in a big red binder. They are printed and put in this binder after they have been approved. There wasn't a meeting in July, so August's minutes will be posted after the meeting in September.
Dr. Carrie Doehring, Professor of Pastoral Care at Iliff School of Theology and in the joint PhD program with the University of Denver, will open the Forum's first fall series on September 17 with a talk on "Moral Stress and Spiritual Struggles: Self-care that fosters resilience." The series, titled "Spiritual Survival Tools for Stressful Times," will alternate talks by guest speakers with opportunities for parishioners to share spiritual resources that have helped them with difficult or stressful situations.
For the next session on Sept. 24, plan to bring your favorite Bible or poetry readings, a song or a spiritual practice to share.

Adult Forum - Weekday Service Proposed
Adult Faith Formation is seeking interested parishioners to attend a Study Service to be held at St. Barnabas on Wednesday evenings. Participants will read materials on Biblical or theological topics which the group has selected. Examples would be exploring a book of the Bible more deeply using internet-sourced commentary or examining the concept of Forgiveness as presented in The Return of the Prodigal Son by Henri Nouwen. The format will include introduction by a lay leader, sharing and prayer requests, discussion of the selected topic, and closing with the Compline service from the Book of Common Prayer.
If interested, please contact Chris Bauer. Details are still flexible so please get in touch even if the day or time won't work for you -- we may modify to suit the group.
